Cahot default

I noticed that i had 2 defaults from a barclaycard I had in 2001. i quickly called barclaycard and was informed it had been passed onto cahot. they wanted teh money there and then and of course iw as questioning it, my problem is i moved house in 2004 and have been at my current add for 5yrs now. they were both sending the letter (so they say) to my previous address. I did not receive any calls from them as when i rang barclaycard teh woman read out my contact number. i have received the statement from barclaycard and indeed i did not finish paying it! i agreed with cahot that i would pay them only if tehy remove the default or if they send me the correspondence they claim to have sent out to me. they have turned around adn asked me for proof that i was not living at the previous address as i had told them, they also say the bought teh account from barlcaycard adn defaulted it in june 2004!!!!if it werent that I couldnt get OD and had to check why as I manage my account and loan and pay both on time I wouldnt have knwon about this.

how do i handle this matter...i have written to barlcaycard as well no response yet

What did you write to Cahoot and Barclaycard about this debt? when did you last make a payment to the debt/account? When date was on the recent letters you have sent?

Your debt may be statute barred and you would not need to pay it. If you have not paid towards the debt or acknowledged the debt in writing for 6 years (or 5 in Scotland) then the debt will be statute barred. Speaking to them on the phone does not count as acknowledgment it must be in writing.

So before you speak to them again is it possible to work out when you last made a payment?
What is the default date the account? (the first one, there should only be one default for each debt but thats another issue to deal with). You are likely to have stopped paying for it maybe 6months before the date of default (although thats not a definite date, its just to give you an idea).

Please don't speak to or write to them again until you have replied to this with more info.
