I thought Martin Lewis suggested ocean as a lender on his website details does anyone out there know anything about using ocean or have you used them0

A few years ago my partner and I went to Ocean finance (genuine one) for a secured loan. They found a fixed loan for us with First Plus (see other threads). That seemed okay as the repayments were manageable and we asked for a fixed rate. Our surprise came three months into the agreement when First Plus put the rate up.
Contacted them who said they didn't do a fixed rate. Back to Ocean and complained that we had requested a fixed rate pointing to the agreed document we had sent them, most unhelpful saying they could do nothing and ignored the original requirement for the fixed rate.
First plus continued to raise the rate until we sold the house and repaid the loan which was almost the same as we originally took out.
The point is even though we have documented proof we wanted a fixed loan with or through Ocean finance the request was ignored by them and didn't tell us they had arranged a variable rate.
I suppose it is customer beware and read all the fine print.
Before anyone asks I have looked at the paperwork and there is no mention of the loan being at a variable rate.0 -
Contact the FSA and point this out to them . Good luck.
Ocean finance like the ocean full of SHARKS0 -
I made an initial enquiry with (genuine) Ocean some years ago. After going through some financial detailsd on the phone, the guy suggested I repay some of my debts first. So i wonder what he thought i wanted the loan for.0

Was refused a loan by Ocean, many moons ago. To this day I thank them with all my heart:D I got a Fix Rate secured loan with Nationwide instead, now happily paid off.
My advice, research FIXED RATE options, you won't regret it, far far better than the variable route.

Are there any other loan companies who help people who can't get loans elsewhere0

Can I please ask you to come over to the Debt Free board and post your SOA, if you are having problems getting a loan, then isn't it the time to take control of your debts rather than trying to consolidate (it rarely works).
Have you had a chance to look at the CCCS website yet? Honestly, you need help to reduce your outgoings and maybe professional advice to tackle your debts - please make that your priority rather than increasing your debts by trying to get a loan, which will probably be secured, do you really want to risk losing your home if you can't meet the repayments in a few months time.
Martin Lewis said "he has never seen a debt problem which cannot be solved", the peeps on the DFW board will help you if you decide to take the first steps by posting your SOA.0 -
Thank you for your comments we only have 8 years left on mortgage anyway before retirement by consolidating onto mortgage we would be paying out approximately £700 per month less than we are to cc's we have done a personal budget and it is really tight re available cash outgoings almost meet income, both in full time employment don't want to ruin credit rating by going on DMP if can help it have applied for mortgage with existing lender but await a decision and therefore was wondering about other options0
