Hi all, just thought I'd pick your brains as we're finalising the hymns for our wedding in the next few days. :rolleyes:

We discussed with our vicar having two hymns: Give me Joy in my Heart and one called Autumn Days, however this second one is very difficult to get the music for and the church don't have it. Also, it is a recent hymn that anyone above 30 would not have sung at school.

With this in mind, we are thinking of having Give me joy... for the first hymn, and finishing with Make me a channel of your peace. Is this a well known hymn? Are there any other 'good'uns'? We do go to church, but our congregation sings several that no one ever sung at school, and most of our friends haven't set foot in church for years! The lyrics to Make me a channel are lovely, too. Of course I will discuss this with our vicar asap, but he's a tough guy to track down so any help would be appreciated

I play for a lot of weddings, and time and time again they have Amazing Grace, Be Thou My Vision, How Great Thou Art (oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder etc), Guide me o Thou Great Jehovah (fab for rugby fans!) - hope that helps.

I love 'shine, Jesus, shine' (which is defo classed as one of the more 'recent' hymns), and so we had it for our wedding, but it really wasn't a problem. People quickly grasped the tune and I just sang at the top of my voice! Hahaha!

Autumn Days- in regards to this song you'd be surprised because some churches do sing it- i know the one i went to used to so many people over 30 did know it i was recently at a wedding that had blessed be your name and you shall go out with joy

Long time lurker on this board, never posted before though (but am praying for the day when I'll be over here organising a wedding!) Anyway, just had to respond as I think 'make me a channel of your peace' is a beautiful hymn and also reckon quite a few of the congregation would know the words. The tune is quite catchy too, so they might even pick it up as they go along. The words are lovely too.

Chanel of my peace!! Or more informally known as chanel of my pis Give me joy in my heart is a lovely hymn, but i found chanel of my peace a bit drab if im honest at school, its not very inspiring but then i was a child back then! Although theyre might be another version, because the lord is my shepheard was always sung up tempo at school, but the norm version is really different.

How lovely are, the mountains at the feet of him, and then the chorus was 'our god reins'.
