Can anyone tell me when default gets removed from a credit file?

It will stay on your file for 6years from the date of default. Did you get a default notice in the post before it was put on your file?

Thank you. Does it get taken off even if it's not settled? I've got 2 defaults and I think I recall receiving 1 notice but I'm not sure. I'm going to write to them and obtain proof as other posts have suggested. It's worth a try!!

If the default is settled this will be reflected on your report. But the default itself will remain on there for 6 years. The only way this can be removed is by the creditor themselves if it was put on there in error. Even then they are usually pretty reluctant to remove them.

It would get taken off even if its not settled, but if you don't settle for 6years they will certainly be hassling you for that 6years and could go for a court judgement against you.
