Hey guys, my apologies. I just realised what I have said and it does seem selfish of me. Sometimes I do forget that I am one of the eldest on this forum and I do hope that I am recognised as someone who is passionate about HPI.

Again, sorry folks if I have spoken out of order.

Oh, now I feel really bad Mr Pobbs. Not only did you say something quite sensible and reasonable in the first place, I've now made you apologise for it.

It should be me that's apologising.

Blimey, this cordial behaviour isn't normal for this forum, is it? Let me try again. Erm..

Pobby, you're a right kn*b. It's clear you know nothing, and... erm...

Oh, I can't do it. You sound too nice and knowledgeable. Sorry.

Hey Cleaver, I believe Mother Theresa is posting on the DFW board. Let's go and give her a kicking.

    Yeah, the stupid catholic sandal-wearing debt-loving plasma-buying b*tch.

I've never thought of it in this way before. Have to say that I find that approach a bit odd really Pastures.

You've said in the past that you saw your house go up to ten times your wages and decided to sell.
Not really, it was the other way round ... my wages dropped to about 1/4 of what they had been when I bought it.

I'm going to make an observation now Pastures and I think you're super lovely, funny and altogether a jolly good person, so I hope it doesn't come across as rude.
Sucking up always wins me over.

You obviously made a big decision in selling your house to live off the income from the money realised by the sale. I remember in a post a few months ago you saying to Mewbs that bascially, you don't really bother to look at interest rates and also weren't inclined to look and learn about other investment methods. At the risk of seeming rude, was it not a slightly strange decision to liquidise your house without any Plan B in terms of what to do with that money to make an income if the base rate was low?
There was no indication that rates would ever ever be this low. Ever. And as I know nothing, I didn't have a Plan B. And I couldn't afford to keep the house, so had to do something with the money that I understood, but banking's different these days and getting accounts is hard work and confusing.

If I was in that situation I would be learning everything I could about other investment vehicles to ensure an income in any financial climate, or giving someone knowledgable a small percentage of my money to do that thinking and work for me.
I did speak to somebody, but his advice was "buy shares, buy shares" - and if I'd done that I'd have lost another chunk.

We've just come in to some cash after selling our house and, whilst I don't find learning about equities, corporate bonds and funds that exciting, I find that I need to know about this stuff because simply leaving all our money in cash isn't going to get us anywhere, whether that's fair or not. Observations over.
I've never even heard of these things before - and I don't make personal decisions easily (down to the traits), I get information overload and am unable to make a decision .... in fact, I ate earlier, having not eaten for 30 hours because I couldn't decide what to eat.... sometimes my brain doesn't work in a straight line and until it does I am unable to move forward with some personal aspects of my life.

lots of quite sensible reasons for decisions made on things that I didn't really think about when I made my original observation

All good points Pastures. I'm going to hobble off to bed in a moment before I start posting videos of me drowning puppies and raping kittens and make myself really unpopular.

On a last, more serious, note Pastures it might be worthing seeing another financial advisor who can advise you on some investments that are defensive and low risk but would give you an income above your cash levels. Something liquid too, so you could pull your money out at any point if you got nervous.

Oh, and have something to eat. I have the opposite problem most of the time of wanting to eat ten different things and having to narrow it down to one (or sometimes two) things.

Oh dear. Getting really down to earth. Maybe getting older and suddenly realising that mortality is actually real, some one like Mother Teresa has done something with her life that is astounding.

Surely it is a lot better than us lot lot sitting around moaning about house prices, bad investments and low interest rates. Don`t think any of us are making much improvements on others lives. Dunno, maybe some are.

I did, but then my body couldn't cope and I nodded off... phone rang, I looked at the clock and thought it was 6.30am tomorrow. Doh!

    :)

I hate it when that happens: eat/body overload/snooze/get the days wrong.

I didn't mean that comment about Mother Theresa, it was purely for the shock-humour value.

Anyway, I think she was an LCD type rather than a plasma buyer.
