I am a veggie and my hubbie eats meat, but since I don't generally cook it he is almost veggie! I spend £140 a month on food, without major economy (ie, that figure includes Quorn mince and fillets and other little luxuries!). My lunch and an occasional lunch for my husband is in that figure, and also a meal out a month and a takeout or two a month. We don't drink wine though!
Not using commerical cleaning products saved me alot - I use vinegar (and lemon juice, etc etc), and just water and a cloth does a lot!
I could get the figure lower, but personally I am happy with the balance of cost / food choice that offers me.
The top up shops are a killer for me too - I get milk delivered and use my bread machine to rule out those excuses, and try to meal plan EVERY meal for the week to come before I go shopping.0 -
I am veggie and usually spend about £50 a month at one of the big supermarkets and maybe a further £10 on odds and sods per month as and when I need them.
Like many of the others I try to do batch cooking (she says smuggly with a veggie shepherds pie in the oven browining off!) and meal planning so that I know what I need.
Maybe I'm not such a good example thou cos I on average I get a few evening meals at work for free (residential care home) but I know there is always something in the freezer at home and I know exactly what has gone into my home-made meals.
:heartpuls CG :heartpulsEver wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
My husband and I are both veggie and we spend anything between £140 and £200 on household things a month. This is literally everything - food, washing powder, cleaning stuff, toiletries etc. This also includes at least one bottle of wine a week and some other foodie treats!
The vast majority of our meals are cooked from scratch and we make packed lunches etc for work.
Most of our fruit and veg comes from Tesco - we both have full time jobs and I commute so it's pretty much the only place that's open when we can shop. We spend anything between £9 and £20 a week on fruit and veg. We did try to get a veggie box but we haven't been impressed with the quality or quantities of the ones we have tried. The farm shop up the road is good, but again it's only open 9 until 5.
If we wanted to, we could cut it back further but we don't need to.0
