Baliff Letter

Just received a second letter from a baliff comapny re council tax - earlier this year I had one for remaining amount of coucil tax after missing payments - just hadnt set up a direct debit - and ended up paying off the balance in full to the company to cease all contact with them, I was lucky and had some savings so able to do this and also received a zero balance statement from them.

Ive just been to housing benefits about a week ago to update on income (got my new tax credit award) and now received another letter demanding more council tac from baliffs - but I hadnt received a bill from the council for this - only a letter, stating that I had been overpaid council tac benefit and this would be recovered in my payments for next while or so?

Im determined to get this sorted out, and i dont understand why more demands from baliff company? I want nothing more to do with them and will pay all council tax bills immediately now - but dont seem to have been issued with one for this?

Any advice? I will be taking all my letters to council tax and benefis place this afternoon.

Can I ask to see the court warrant apparently obtained against me from baliffs? If I challenge them do I risk my property being taken? (the current bill is around £70)

What im worried about now is if the company can come to me and start demanding money I dont know I owe in first place, can they keep doing this, as I thought I had sorted out all liability in first round and any additional payments I needed to make would revert back to council not bailiffs or if sent to a baliff company in first place do they keep asking you for money for rest of year if any overpayments are to be recovered?

If you cleared the balance and got a NIL statement, take this to Council meeting.
Tell them that they need to sort it out, also get them to contact the Bailiff Co while you are with them.
    Dont get rolled over.
    :D:D stay wonky :D:D

....one-way ticket to Portugal booked !
  • went to the council and was told letter was actually from last years council tax, hadnt realised i didnt and so i just paid it - £61 to finish it.
Thanks for advice and now have current years council tax under control and on direct debit so shouldnt get any more letters.

Seems silly i got contacted before for a current debt but htey have waited till now to get a debt sent to them in January!
