I have an 8 month old Jack Russell terrier, he was hit by a car two days ago. We took him to the vet and he has suffered a diaphragmatic hernia. The surgery for repair is beyond our means and all we can do is wait and see how he does. He has seemed in very good spirits and just seems a little scared. His breathing is not bad, only when he is on his belly it seems a bit quick. But nothing that makes me believe he is having discomfort or in distress. I was a little confused by the vet's prognosis and not sure what to expect. He seems like himself. He chases the cat (though not like he used to), is very alert and seems happy for the most part. He has been eating and going to the bathroom regularly. Is this something that he can live with? Or will there be definite decline? I'm just worried and need some advice on what to expect. All and any advice would be helpful. Thank you!

Have a look at the attatched link, by the way, if surgery is not financially possible for you, why not try the PDSA, they may be able to help. I hope this helps you.

with only 4% meat content thats debatable but I'm sure as most cats live long healthy lives on it its fine for most cats. We have now switched to a highlife complete food that provides a minimum of 50% meat. We did offer them some whiskas the other week as we had a spare pouch lying about and they turned their noses up at it. I guess its a case of once they have had the tastierfood they wouldn't go back to the junk food again. I'm sure as you say though its fine for most cats.

My family Cat died a few weeks ago at the ripe old age of 21 an 1/2... he didn't have any fresh meat other than the odd mouse he caught but he rarely ate them, his favorite food was aldi cat food or the left overs from the cavery at the hotel my mom works at. for some reason he always turned his nose up at whiskers and felix ....

I now have two kittens aged 7 weeks

my cat keeps getting this gray/black stuff on her nose. it comes right off with a washcloth, but it keeps coming back, as early as the next day. anyone have an idea of what it is and how i stop it? thanks.

last month we got a miniature beagle (Archie)from a beagle breeder who lives on a farm. when the dog was 1 month old the ladys son decided to bathe him in this lime soap which they used to clean feces off of their horses. This burned Archies skin pretty bad. When we got him we were told to bathe him 3 days a week with this oatmeal shampoo, which we have been doing. his skin seems to be healing a little but we cannot get rid of this smell coming from him. its really strong and has not gotten any better since we got him and as I said its been a month now. his skin is still pretty raw but im wondering if theres anything else I can use on him to help him smell better and maybe stop the itching?. A friend told us to bathe him in tomato juice to get rid of the smell but that seems to me like it would burn even more.Archie is very active and has a healthy appetite and seems pretty healthy other then this skin problem. He has been itching and biting himself like crazy, which I assume is because his skins starting to heal. Hes been dipped so he doesnt have fleas. anyway any advice on how to make him smell better would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advance

please beware of constantly feeding cats with tinned whiskers cat food i did this for my cat all the time untill one day he was very poorly and was weeing like a fountain rushed him to the vets and was told that he had formed cystals in his tummy because of being fed tinned food.i am now feeding him on dry whiskers food and the vet cant believe the change in him as he said my cat could of died well was he is very heathly now even thro he cant go out as what ever he eats would kill him.

i have an 14 year old yorkshire dog who is eating and drinking more but has suddenly started weeing in the house she seems very restless now and will not stay in her bed the only time she sleeps in her bed is when i go to bed.has anyone any surgestions while im waiting to take her to the vets on tuesday.
