At long last folks after waiting 2 months for my CRB to come through...I can start my new job tomorrow:T :j
My wages are crap 5.15 ph..... 8 hours per day. My plan is to work as many hours as possible without killing myself....I work in a care home so hours are always available and so is promotion but for now I have to start at the very bottom regardles of my qualifications. But its a new begining for me to restart my life and get it right this time.
I have no out goings..am staying with OH for now untill I am able to get a place of my own (we love each other but we are to used to living on our own).
BUT I am unsure as to where to start with my debts do I ring them up and pay the minimum amount or try and pay them off as quickly as possible............... but its my money and I want to keep it all:D
looking forward to your advice and thaks for all your help in the past. I will be sticking to this forum for a long time to come yet.:rotfl:

The first debt you need to deal with (if you haven't already made arrangements) is the council tax. This is a serious debt and non-payment can ultimately lead to imprisonment. I don't mean to scare you, but it's one debt that you do need to sort out ASAP. If you haven't already done so, ring the council and sort out a repayment plan (with repayments that you can afford and will pay).
As for paying the rest of the debts, if you only pay the minimum, you will end up paying a lot more in interest than you would by clearing them quickly. That's why the pain of not having money and paying them off as quickly as possible is worth it!
We can't really give proper advice on your debts without knowing your full SOA (statement of affairs). List your incomings, outgoings, and debts (with APRs, interest rates etc) and we'll be better placed to advise you.
But get onto that council tax ASAP!0 -
Welcome!! Well done on getting the job. You say you are going to work as many hours as you can, but you need to be realistic & work out a budget on a X hours per week - usually 37-40 hours. Anything more is a bonus but you dont want to kill yourself in the process. Go to:
whatsthecost.co.uk
and see how much you could realistically be taking home....
Then you need to decide what you need to pay out. How much would a place of your own cost? You'll need to look into this and take the figures into account for your budget. You may not be paying any outgoings at the moment, but this is not realistic & you say you want your own place, so you'll have to pay out soon. Are you thinking of renting (rather than buying?)?
For the money owed - have you been in contact with these people? Do they know you are waiting to start your job? (rather than having been ignoring them...).
You need to work out what you can afford to pay them each month & put that proposal forward. It might take a bit of negotiation, but you'll soon come to some kind of arrangement.....
Your wages sound pretty low - if you do overtime do you get paid extra? Is this wage average for your area/skills/experience? Could you do anything to increase your earning power in the long run?

£5.15 ph for working during the week and weekends and any overtime that is need.
All the peeps I owe money too have been kept upto date on my financial situation every two weeks. And have been very patient with the situation. Even the CT peeps.
I intend to work 40 pw and any hours on top of that is a bonus. My only out goings are £20 pw to my OH. Its an odd setup tbh......I was evicted............ OH said I could stay with him, get job, pay off debts and then get a place of my own....we love each other but like our own space as well. It works for us. There is no great rush for me to get a place of my own as long as my debt is slowly coming down.0
