I have to just say to everyone, whenever you're quoted a price try and haggle it down! I would never have done this before planning a wedding, but its amazing how often it works!
I've got £50 off our DJ, £200 off my dress, £1000 off my photographer, and today £50 off the chair covers. I am going to ask every supplier from now on, its amazing how a smile and a please can make a big difference! :T x

Yey!! :T Well done you!! I am rubbish at haggling but really have to try and do it for our wedding once we get it up and running.

That is one expensive photographer though to get £1000 off! How much are you paying if you dont mind me asking??!!!0 -
I'm paying £372 for four hours and that's all the photos on a disc with copyright. We've got friends paying £1500-2000! Shocking! I managed to argue a discount because it was a Friday, and a bit extra for paying in full, and a bit more for being a member of a wedding forum (so can spread the word if I get good service).
I thought I'd be rubbish at haggling too, but its basically lots of "ooh I'd love that but its just not quite in my budget..." and "well I've had a couple of quotes of £X for the same service but I'd really like to use you as you're recommended, could you match it?" and pleases and smiles, I've been amazed how often it works!

Wow! That is superb! Can't believe they dropped the price from £1372 to £372? That is a big drop! You have a real talent in haggling!! I will definitely try that, I am sure I can do some charming! You go girl!! :j. We had a quote for £400 for a weekday wedding which I was really pleased with but yours is superb!! I am going to take a leaf out your book though, as your post says, if you don't ask, you don't get and you have nothing to lose. Its not like people want to lose your business, particularly for weekday weddings like we are having which is always an added bonus!!

Well done! It pays to haggle, so far have not paid the asking price of anything.
Got £300 off the venue (meals, rooms and disco) £350 off dress, £150 off photographer, £50 off magician and half price tiara at wedding fair yesterday! Don't intend to stop, next goal is to bring £270 cake to £200, wish me luck!
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

With our photographer, the quoted price was for a 'package' costing £450 by asking them to break it down and trimming a few bits, (slightly less pictures on the disc, cos did we really need 150 when 100 will do
) and pushing the 'its a friday wedding' thing, we got them for £300!

Its the one thing that has saved me the most money in the whole process! I've got a couple of friends who have just got engaged and I just keep saying to them Haggle, Haggle, Haggle!

I think my photographer's initial quote was just under £1400 and then I got it under £1000 for it being a Friday, and then a bit more for saying drop the albums out of the "package" (we'll get a nice album after the wedding once its all paid for - maybe for our first anniversary
) and then some more for saying we can pay straight away (we had a bit saved) and then the final drop was for being a confetti member (and promising them to rave about them as long as the photos are good).
I've been amazed, I've always believed that the price quoted was the best price, how wrong was I?! xMortgage when started (Dec 2013): £157,272.50
