Tesco update - I've managed to download five tracks now, after about a dozen attempts, but the remaining six tracks just come up in the Tesco Download Manager saying "Can't connect to server."

I've sent a couple of support emails to them about it but haven't heard anything yet... 8-(

rpb- I had the same problem with it hanging on trying to connect. I found if I right-clicked on the songs and selected something like run as admin, then it uploaded fine with no probs.

Tiara - thanks, but the right-click options I have in the Tesco Download Manager on each track are Play, Open Download Folder, Abort and Remove From List... 8-S

I heard back from Tesco. By the sounds of it, they keep different albums on different servers, and they said, "This issue is probably caused by extremely high usage on the individual server that the album is located on." I imagine there *is* pretty high load on this server since they are selling the latest Muse album for £3.97!!!. I've managed to get all but three tracks downloaded now, but only by repeatedly clicking the Retry button whenever I notice they've all failed again. Hopefully I'll get there, little by little, but it doesn't give me a warm feeling about Tesco's downloads, I'm afraid. 8-(

I've just tried to buy it and couldn't get it to download. Just stuck on "Connecting". I rang up and tech support started to talk me through getting it to work and I just thought "why am I jumping through hoops to make this work?" I've downloaded through Amazon and others before, and it's worked without any problems. Why am I, as the customer, making changes to my PC (which is just one day old!) to get their system to work? I asked for a refund and for my account to be closed, which they claim they've done.

It's a shame, because I support the idea of digital download, but why do so few companies make the effort instead of expecting us to?

It won't let me register on the site. Keeps telling me the password looks wrong, when there's nothing wrong with it...

finally in a fit of frustration i said to heck with it and made a new account...worked perfectly fine for me then!

I finally got the tracks downloaded from Tesco. It got down to the last two tracks and they just wouldn't download - "Can't connect to server." messages every time. I tried for two whole days. Then I got an email from them saying:

"This may be do to a issue with the ISP blocking ports the Download Manager uses for some of its connections, and explain the slow speed. ISP's block some ports that connection programs use to limit the usage of torrent and file sharing online. As they cycle ports some become free and this is why its talking sever tries for anything starts." [sic]

I tried using a different ISP and those last two tracks came down first time. So (a) maybe it was a problem with my previous ISP, but (b) shouldn't it use standard web ports so that it just works for everyone? As notken said, I've downloaded from iTunes and Amazon before without any problems, so I believe Tesco have set things up in a way that won't work for some users, and I have no idea why.
  • anyone else bought this from Tesco Digital and had a problem with any of the tracks? I downloaded with no apparant problems but one of the tracks ends so abruptly I can't imagine Muse did it deliberately. checked track timings from another website and it has chopped about 40 seconds of the end of the track - will be getting in touch with Tesco Digital
