Gin making

Hi again,
Im making rosehip gin [possible xmas pressies!] but have made it up as I went along. Does ANYONE have an actual real rosehip gin recipe? Ive basically copied the sloe gin method, but Im not sure it'll work.
Also going to try blackberry and elderberry gin, will also make them up  they seem a bit too squishy though....

  • I make a lot of alcoholic liqueuers and the general principal is has been: One litre of spirit, half lirte of fruit and 40 sugar cubes. This seems to work for me.

My best brew has been an old recipe passed on but originating in France. French supermarkets sell spirit specially brewed for tipple makers called eau de vie.

It's all the F numbers so easy to remember:

For every litre of vodka (or "eau de vie" if you can get it)...
Four Oranges pierced with forty hole
    Forty roasted coffee beans
    Forty sugar cubes
Infuse for forty days and forty nights....strain and Enjoy!

    HI there

I am making Sloe Gin for the first time this year. I used 1 bottle gin, 1/2 bottle sloes with sugar added. There are as many different recipes for sloe gin as there are people making it. Some like to make it without sugar, others use the same sugar quanitity as fruit weight for weight. Others still swear by recipes somewhere in between.

Seen a recipe for damson Gin but none for rosehip so let us know how it turns out. As for Sloe Gin - it improves the longer its kept. Even awful tasting Sloe GIn - turns into nectar if left for another 12 months.

It appears patience is a virtue in this.

All things considered - the main question is - how will it taste? and does the flavour of rosehips complement the Gin?

    We wait with baited breath

Mine's been brewing for 12 months now and it still tastes like petrol. I'm wondering if another half cup of sugar might help?? We are about to start on a new batch with this years sloes which looka lot juicier and yummier than last year!

  • Well I'm being really experimental.....
    Raspberry gin
    Blueberry gin
    Blackcurrant gin
    Damson gin
    Cherry gin

All marinading away nicely. I keep just having a wee taste to check progress and adding a little more sugar if needed. Roll on Christmas!!:rotfl:
  • Been looking into flavoured vodka and am a complete novice, if I was to try and make lemon vodka do you think a couple of unwaxed lemons - peel zested, pith removed and flesh and peel added to vodka and left for a week would do?
