first month of being good isnt going so well

 I am already skint and feeling miserable today.

I brought lots of things that I do need, like ink cartridges, paid for vets (vaccinations for cats) and other little things, but i have lost track of where everything has gone! and thought i was being good. i am so annoyed with myself as i thought i would have some money left for once! Oh well only 23 days til pay day

i seem to have my joint account more under control but now my personal account seems to be all over the place! GRRRRRR

next month i am writing down EVERYTHING i spend

The best thing you can do is just haul it back on track! I know that I've gone over my spending budget for last week, and it's tempting to just say 'sod it' and chuck my budget out the window for this month. But I'll be sitting down this afternoon (if it stays this quiet at work!) and redoing my budget to take account for it.

I'd start the spending diary now, don't wait for next month. I find that even just writing down my spending amounts makes me question buying something...
  • Spending diary is a great idea, I would start it now. It would then give you an idea straight away where money is dripping to.

First month is always the worst anyway, I thought I'd have money left over but I didn't!! Just takes time and tweaking. Don't give up though, it's easier to give up than to make the effort to change it all.

    Good luck!!

start the spending diary now, and see if you can work out where your money has gone, look through receipts, think about what you did on certain days, you'll be surprised how much you'll be able to account for and then next month, you'll know when to hide your purse. Don't look at it month on month, but you can start to make the difference now!! Good luck!

lynz - bootfair was a bit miserable! and not very busy at all, but i made £40 and didnt buy one single thing! and after flirting with the man in charge he only charged me £2.50 for my pitch! i did have to promise to do the next boot fair in my bikini tho! ha ha ha

good introduction into bootfairs, hope the next one will be better! we are going to a big one next time - my mum made £140 there last time she went!

Mine was great made 150 at the bootsale ( not rubbing it in) but it was a big site and there were plenty of buyers. Denham, near uxbridge, so a bit of a trek for us, but well worth it. Recommended.

Absolutely exhausted now though, had to do ikea for the lodgers furniture on Friday night, and yesterday was putting it all together. thank god I dont need to do that again, shattered now though!

    well done thats brilliant!

i thought i wouldnt have enough stuff but still have a car fulls worth of bits to take to the next one (in a couple of weeks time) I really enjoyed it actually - me and my mum had a good laugh - although there were some people trying to have us over - my mum sorted them out tho! the worst ones were kids!! im sure they have been trained by their parents!!!

when is your lodger moving in?

    Shes moved in :)

She moved in on the sunday last week. All her stuffs still in boxes bless her, so shes been great waiting for the furniture.

Came in under budget at Ikea as well ( no candles for me this time :D) plus spend 15 at the bootsale on new towel rail ( budgeted 25 for that, got for £2), lamp (budgeted 50 for that, got new in box one for £3 and 25 for a shoe rack ( got one for a fiver after haggling, a cupbaord tho not a rack) Saving in the lodgers account £70. Very chuffed.

Denham is highly recommended from me, it was packed with buyers and not too too much haggling, we did well.

  • Lou what about a simple spreadsheet that you can log your spending each month ?

I find it so much easier now i can actually see where my cash is going and how much ive got left etc.
not gone over my overdraft limit in six months !
however there is a downside. ive become fanatical about it, checking & updating it every day without fail:rolleyes:
    Debt at highest £16k+
    Debt at lightbulb moment £14,800
    Current debt £6336
Cleared £4206 in November 05 How ? Bye Bye PPI :)
