Be Very Wary

I was perusing Autotrader website and clicked on a loan application link on the right handside of the browser window.

It askes some very basic questions: Name, postcode, phone number amount of loan and loan period. It then went to another page with lenders and rates.

It categorically stated that applying for a loan by clicking on one of the lenders links and filling out the info would initiate a credit search. It also stated that doing so more than once could adversely affect your credit rating.

As I had only wanted to find out the condition of loans available i.e. APR, repayment amount and monthly payment, I closed the browser window. It did state that the browser window was part of Moneysavingexpert dot com.

Considering the ethos of this site, it gives you a bit of a warm feeling.

Within 5 minutes my phone rand and a 3rd party company called QDL, quick decisions limited, called me trying to process a loan application. I informed them I had only gone so far so as to see what the repayment figures etc were and that I did not want to proceed. I was then given a hard sell for 5 minutes and I had to be forceful and rude to end the conversation without just putting down the phone.

Now I am going to see if they have made an application or credit search as it was not what I wanted. This is just a warning and I suppose a posting to express my dismay that Martin Lewis or his website may be linked to an outfit such as QDL.

I have just been on the site and page you said. The above logo is what you saw. Totally different website to money saving expert. I think you may owe Mr Martin Lewis an apology. :)
We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
  • I will apologise,

    I apologise.

    Done.

Still, when on the phone when given all the blurb it sounded very much like they said moneysavingexpert.com

It is still something worth being wary of because I am fairly switched on, yet I got the wrong end of the stick.

Probably the intention of the site in the first place!! The warning still stands.

Always puzzles me why people put their correct details in when all you want is a rough figure!

Same for Insurance, a couple of legit answers, postcode, NCB, time license held and car details. The rest of the info is just keyboard slapping to fill out the boxes, not even a correct email address.

If you like the figure and wish to proceed, go back and start again properly.

I usually do exactly as you said!! This time I was just pootling along and the micro site did say that no credit check would be performed at that stage. I don't think one has been as there aren't enough detaisl - just annoyed at the phone call and the fact that they caught me out thinking it was linked to moneysavingexpert.com.

    I'm usually very savvy.
