Quick Slow cooker Q

Bought a slow cooker at the weekend (after my last one broke about a year-ish ago) and decided to cook the lamb in it over night, I put about a mug and half of water in the pot and set it onto low , the lamb was still a bit frozen, anyway had been cooking slow for a bout 8 hours when I got up in the morning almost all the water had evaporated the was barely any water covering the bottom of the pot, so I wonder of I didn't put enough water in?. Do you think my slow cooker heating up to hot? (if that doesn't sound daft)
Also the lid doesnt seem as snug as the last one (and if this makes any sense) when I push the lid to one side, I can see in the pot though the gap, the gap is small but can see though it all the same.
Anyway I'm ramberling and properly not making any sense whatsoever but if it does, I was think of taking it back and getting a different one, do you think this what I should do? See as I haven't had one in a while am not really sure?

And am still ramberling and making no sense, lol

TIA
QP.

Hi, at a guess, it sounds like your lid isn't airtight so the liquid is evaporating that way - mine is airtight. Just a thought - wait and see what others think, but i would be inclined to take it back

Some people put joints of meat in with much less water, so i think it is more a SC related problem. Hth.

  • just checked mine, the lid isnt tight,(im not sure but i think it has to be a bit loose to allow steam to escape,)however altho its not tight and does move there isnt any gap.Sorry cant help regarding the water as ive never left mine on overnight, the one i have now is fairly new and i have noticed it cooks a lot quicker than my old one did,its a Breville and cooks to bubbling point when on high setting.

defo a lid problem - take it back, or you could put a tea towl round the edge when u use it to stop the steam escaping too much and losing your liquid.
  • Thanks guys.
I think from what all of you have said I'll be taking it back and exchanging it for a different model.
As I've said I can't remember my old one being like that and from what you all have said has convinced me so.

Off to argos tomorrow then I think lol.

  • I have an old style crock pot type slow cooker and the lid is heavy but definately not airtight - I have left meat in all night with just a thin layer of water (stock) on the bottom and its not gone - I would definitely take your one back it does not seem to be working right.
