Home Brew

Hello all, i am cosidering having a go at making my own lager  :j. Has anyone given this a go, if so have you any tips on what and indeed what not to do, also what starter kit and which lager kit is good, and where to get it from, and indeed if anyone has got some kit for sale perhaps we can come to some arrangement, any advise is much apreciated. Thanks in advance.

I used to make it about 20 years ago and used Boots kits, no sure if they still sell them. Wilkinson's does though but never tried them

I found that when bottled and left for month or more it was nectar, otherwise it was cat's wee, just like normal pub style lager IMO

If you like pub keg lagers, or American style Budwieser [sp?] etc then you may be disappointed, if however you like real continental style lagers then you will happy

  • Hi
I make the wilkinson lager and wines. I can highly recommend them, easy to do and taste smooth.

I am drinking some from begining of year and found that it matures well if kept cool and in the dark (garage)

All i can say is try it and i doubt if you will ever stop.(very addict hobby lol)
  • Thanks for that have you any tips?
  • Have bottled up my first lager, now fermenting my second lot i had a taste and it was surprisingly similar to Fosters, well worth a go after the initial equipment spend (about £30 for the bin, hydrometer, syphon tube, your 40 pint ale or lager kit with yeast and sugar) about a £10 for 40 pints lovely jubbly!

I didn't realise Boots still made it?
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice
