So, I have cleared up lots of debt which I am pleased. But now I find my arreas are causing me so much trouble.
I split from my partner ( I have no children) and cannt get out off arreas.
My electric company want to fit a meter (I have 4 weeks left before this is going to happen. I cannot have a meter installed it will get me into trouble with my landloard. I have explained this to Southern Electric. But they want half the balance up front before they will agree another payment plan. I Owe them £1000 now. So have the balance is £500 but they will accept £400. I can not afford this.
My Council tax I have arreas from previous years (about £1000) and now this years tax is going to court next week. I might ask for an attachment to earnings at least it gets paid then.
I have this arreas as over the past 3.5 years I have been made redundant twice and out off work for about 7 months (in total here and there).
I now have a stable job in the NHS but on low wage. I am currently filling in the form for council tax benefit but this is not going to stop them going to court.
Here is my SOA
My mobile phone bill is high as I have 3 hands sets one for me and two for my nice and nephew.
I cant council them at the moment as the contract does not end untill june next year. It will cost to pull out early. Unless any one knows of any tricks to leave a contract ealry.

Hi emlc
As you probably know council tax and electricity are priority debts.
With regards to your mobile phone you could cancel the handsets for your niece and nephew just leaving you with your which will be much cheaper. Then you need to ask if you can go to the lowest possible tariff. Tell them you are in financial difficulty and they should let you reduce. Some providers only let you drop down a tariff each month so you might need to do it over a few months.
Alternatively your niece and nephew or their parents need to start contributing their share of the bills - £150 is a ridiculous amount, you need to aim for a total spend of £20-30 per month.
What is the FLM debt? Is this unsecured credit?
Why do you not have any groceries budgeted for? You also need to include road tax and car maintenace (budget 1/12 of the annual cost each month).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Hi when it comes to food etc i just buy what I can if i can. I often eat at my sisters house or live on basic things.
FLM is unsecured but it has a garentor with it so I cannot not pay them
Thank you for replying:hello: 2006 = over £150002009 = £6000Target2011 = £0:j0 -
Hi
What ever you do avoid an attachment of earnings it will be anything up to 25% of your wages which will just get you into further trouble. Is there anyway you can live without your car, after the mobile phone bill its the next biggest drain on your finances. Is your rent really only £106 per month?0 -
Hi,
I cannot get rid of my car I work out in the sticks.
Yes my rent is very low.
Do I have any rights for the electric company not to be able to break into my property and fit a meter?:hello: 2006 = over £150002009 = £6000Target2011 = £0:j0 -
Hi Emlc - might be worth asking for opinions re the meter on the utiliities board. I would certainly think they are not allowed to break in but I imagine they are entitled to require you to allow them to fit a meter or to stop supplying the property if you refuse. But I'm sure other people have asked similar questions about landlords not allowing a prepayment meter so there may be an answer on that board.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
