Partners son in Germany...How much maintenance should be paid?

Hi All,

I was hoping you all could help me.

My partner has a child who he had with his ex whilst in the army and living in Germany. His ex is German and so lives in Germany with their child. My partner left the army four years ago and so is now back living in the UK.

During the time my partner was in the army he was made by the German goverment to give two thirds of his wages to his ex to support both herself and their child.

When my partner left the army his ex told my partner if he didnt keep paying the same amount of money then he woud never see his child again (bearing in mind the job he got in UK paid much less then what he was getting while in the army) Due to this my partner got credit cards in order to keep seeing his child, although he has only ever seen his child a handful of times since leaving Germany. However my partner ended up getting himself into a lot of debt doing this and eventually had to leave his house and move back in with his parents as he couldn't afford food let alone rent and bills (this was before we met).

However he has now sorted himself out and we both moved in together and got our own house, during the time he was in debt my partner couldnt afford regular payments to his ex but now we are putting away £150 into a bank account for his child, as with the exchange rate at the moment we feel it will be pointless sending it across as his child wont be getting much.

However his ex is now getting solicitors to try and get more money from my partner.

I was hoping that someone could tell me if she can do this and how much my partner should be paying in maintenance for his child in Germany.

Thank you for any help.
