I've just had a letter through the post saying that I have won from this post: Clicky Thank you sooo much to Eightof8 for posting :D

I have this week found out that we are going to have to put our wedding off til 2011 (it was planned for Aug 2010) due to financial reasons with my parents though, and it says in the T&Cs that you need proof of marriage (I would imagine before you can go on it?). I am gutted and now feel awful for entering....

There is no way we will be able to get married in Aug 2010 now very sadly... but obviously I'd still love to take the holiday. I'd rather give it to a friend who is getting married in October but the prize is not transferable.... Does anyone have any experiences with these Wedding competitions - if you've been on a honeymoon or won another substantial prize like a dress, have you needed to provide proof in advance?

Thanks :o
2008-2011: £23k of wins

2012 best win so far: iPad 2!!!! Holiday to Austria (given to family member) :j also £100 & 2 wine cases
Thank you so much, all posters

  • i'm really sorry to hear about that, maybe contact them and explain the situation, and show as much proof as possible that you are getting married, and see if you can go on the trip beforehand.

Failing that, see if you can transfer it, and i'll gladly take it of your hands having recently gotten married myself
  • "Reservations may not be confirmed earlier than 30 days before departure. Tickets must be issued within 14 days after reservations are confirmed. Seats are limited and may not be available on all flights. Waitlist is not permitted 18. The tickets can be used at any time except during specified embargo periods (Christmas/New Year, summer, Easter and UK school holidays). Tickets are subject to flight availability at the time of ticketing – in the correct booking class of service 19. This competition will be governed by English law"

I have just copied the relevant part of the T&C from Eightof8's comp. post, and it looks as if the booking is open-ended. There is no deadline date for booking. Some comps. stress that a holiday/trip must be booked no later than dd/mm/yy. It might be best if you contact Wedding Magazine to see what they suggest. Well done, and I hope you can go.
We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
  • Oh no what a shame. I would email them to ask if there is a time limit on when honeymoon needs to be taken as not clear from terms and conditions explaining that you are recently engaged so still in planning stages and as yet have no fixed date of marriage but keep quiet about wedding being 2011 to see what response you get.

If they say can be taken anytime then you will have that in writing and have a wonderful honeymoon :D
  • Can you not just have a the legal service earlier and the wedding, with gifts friends party when money allows. hth.

  • I have just heard back from the promoters and got an official email. It says proof of valid wedding date will be required in the form of a certificate or venue confirmation. It says in the (another version) T&Cs that she has pasted to me that the the couple could be liable if we do not provide this. The prize is valid up til 30th August 2010. I emailed her asking what constitutes proof as I don't have any documentation as yet and she stated the above had just been implemented - because someone had previously won a holiday and taken a male friend (it was a guy) and requested twin rooms and this was unfair to other entrants.

I am so gutted :( I really don't know what to do. I don't want to be held liable for a £6000 holiday if I am unable to book my wedding in time to give send her proof. We've been engaged for 4 years so it is definitely on the cards but financially I just have no idea when now....

Any further gems of advice? :(

why not get married at a register office quick then re-new your vows with a big do in a couple of years, then you can have a great honeymoon and still have enough time to save to re-new vows
    I love this place ..........

  • To be honest I would go with bailey babe's idea and have a small legal ceremony and then the real wedding later on. But then again I'm a sucker for a luxery holiday!

Maybe prebook church/registry for 2011 at around about the month you want and ask the vicar if you could change date if needed. If you show the promoters the proof that you pre-booked & maybe ask if you can have honeymoon in advance seeing as it is only valid till 2010, explain that you could not afford to pay for honeymoon after wedding. I hope you get it sorted, good luck & well done on the win. :)
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!

You cant really win a Honeymoon if there is no wedding, unfortunately so if you want to take the holiday, you will have to pay for it and the draw will be taken again.
It does say in the T&C's that proof of the wedding will be required and this is so people don't enter to just win a holiday.
There isnt much you can do I am afraid.
