    I dont think it matters what the budget is as long as the b&g are happy.

    :eek::eek::eek:

    That sort of attitude is the one that has gotten the country and young people into the situation that we are currently in. Matched betting is not a formula one should be using to raise cash for a wedding, there is no "tried and tested method" for any form of gambling, there is only one winner and it aint this side of the fence.

    June 2011 is an awful long time away so I'm sure the OP will manage to do it, its just a case of is it worth doing it for that amount of money. I actually think this should be discussed in an open forum, the in's and outs of why people feel they need to spend that much or want to spend that much. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people spending this type of money, it means I go home with a much bigger pay cheque, I just think the OP and his W2B aught to reconsider the logic of why they are spending that much.

    I worked for a well loved gay British star at their wedding and their table wine was £40 a bottle. £40 a bottle!! They had a budget of just short of £3million quid, they had white carpets in a field in the marquee and all I could think all the time was what a waste of money, as soon as the punters enter the venue it'll be filthy and the "artisitc designer" who had been flown in from the states was really annoyed the punters didn't wipe their feet. Idiot! They could afford it, it was small change to them, the OP however cannot afford it and isn't getting married until June 2011.

    Thats 20 months away. The OP has to save or make £900 a month to pay for this wedding.

    Or... in a 3.3% ISA that is currently available it the OP could save £874.69 per month.

    I just think that £900 a month can be much better spent when one doesn't have it. If you've got it, fine, if you can afford £900 a month to leave your household to pay for one day and a two week honeymoon thats great, but is it really really worth it?

    Im not advocating getting in debt to fund a wedding!!! I am simply saying that people should set a realistic budget for themselves and work to whatever they are happy working to. If your budget is £1k that is amazing and I am really impressed by the fab ideas on moneysaving weddings but on the other side of the coin if you have the money saved and available for a wedding then why should we judge? The OP is clearly researching the options and formulating moneysaving plans. How far he wants to take the moneysaving is down to the couple.

    You have the wrong idea of matched betting. It is a tried and tested formula. It is not betting but merely using a system of placing a bet with one company and placing the opposite bet with another company in order to extract the "free" money i.e. free bets offered by gambling websites. My OH made £3k towards our wedding budget by doing this but I would certainly not encourage anyone who isnt doing it anyway/comfortable doing it to take it up as an easy way to make money!

    Good for you that he made 3k, thats great, I just don't gambling is a way to raise the money for your wedding, on one hand, money is money, but I think they way you get the money is just as important...

    We don't have a budget tbh, we are getting what we can for free via our jobs and the "mend and make do" attitude for the everything else. I think the only thing we're paying for was my dress off ebay (other stuff I sold on ebay has just about paid for that - £115) and catering (£670 for 100 people, hog roast). Fingers crossed we will make our money back on that as I am hoping a magazine of shiny-ness is still interested and that should pay for the 5* honeymoon and the event as a "cheap chic" feature.

    I've ploughed too much money into my business to afford an all singing and dancing wedding so I'm exchanging my skills as a costume maker for the caberet performers we are having etc...

    Frannyann.... suprisingly you are not too far from the truth, it was sold to one of the shiny magazines but I am contractually obliged not to say who's wedding it was!!!!!

    Your wedding sounds fab and really good fun! I hope that you have an amazing day :T which is exactly what you want it to be. The cabaret performers sound ace.

    It is not gambling though - it is the martinlewis philosophy of taking money from large organisations which are stupid enough to give out money and turning it back on them i.e. consumer revenge.

  • We're getting married on a budget of £3000, and we've been surprised at how much we've managed to get for it. Our biggest saving was on my wedding dress. It was ex-display from ebay and only cost £60 incl. postage. It's absolutley stunning and I couldn't imagine getting married in anything else. I just made sure I sent the seller lots of questions about measurements before bidding.
