Hi everyone,
I'm getting married and am starting to look around for entertainment at the reception. Can anyone give me a rough idea of prices for a DJ to perform at a wedding reception these days?
Had a look at an older thread but as it was back in 2007, thought I would ask again!
TIA.

My friend has just booked a DJ for her wedding next May and he charged £300- but he's well worth that.
She had got a quote from another who was looking £600 but that's ridiculous!0 -
Not sure if this would be of any interest to you but I booked this caracaturist recently for a relatives wedding and he was fantastic!

He kept everyone entertained for about 2 hours between wedding ceremony and reception and charged about £200 but it was well worth every penny.0 -

250+....bit vague....the only thing I can add is, see him before you book him, make sure even though its your wedding, remember the ages and makeup of your guests (audience) and finally....
you pay peanuts.....you get monkeys....your guests will head home and the entertainment is normally the lasting memory of the day....the band was too loud....the disco played house music all night....choose wisely....
and as regards price....you can pay £1000 for a band and disco, you can easily pay £400 for a disco on its own, but the guy will involve the audience with games and party pieces for all as well as a great selection of music that he knows will work...why, he's got over 20 yrs in the business.
I have been in this type of business for many years...the happy couple spends loads on the wedding (and I have to say some of the money videographers are charging is RIDICULOUS, make sure you see their work before you pay them!)...but the place they always cut corners is the entertainment....as I said its normally the last thing your guests remember about the day...make sure you spend an adquate amount on it, choose your entertainment AFTER seeing them...any disco/band is happy to let you see them perform if they're good enough...then book them with confidence....
did I mention the rip-off prices video makers charge....lol...
I'm not recommending any bands or discos, I know lots of great ones, but I'm not here to promote anyone....and before some of the high and mighty wedding video "experts" start shouting....I've seen a lot of work out there and some of it is really BAD....so see a finished product before you book your wedding video.I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

Not sure of prices now but we used http://www.5stardisco.co.uk/ and can highly recommend Paul. We have been to a few weddings / parties since then and he was excellent at them all. Interacts well with the crowd, can do games. karakoe if you wish too.

i dont think 250+ is vague wehn i was pricing they ranged from 250- 1000 so 250+ is accurate.love you lots like jelly tots0

Agree with you get what you pay for...our disco was a mate and was £200.. he charges a fair bit more and is worth it..
we also had a singer do 2x45 minutes for £450. Again worth every penny.0 -

its vague when a price quoted is £250 or as much as £1000, its a bit of a sweeping statement....how much do you charge?....depends could be £250 or £1000....I reckon the OP wanted a slightly more accurate quote, I think for quality if you pay less that £400 for a disco or £700 for a band or disco you are probably booking trouble...a band on its own (a good 4 or 5 piece band) expect to pay a minimum of £500 to £600...then consider what you may be paying for your photo album, your video maker or your chocolate fountain....then £700 for a band and disco to cover 4 to 5 hours for you isn't that expensive...I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

I can recommend DJ Phil. http://www.djphil.co.uk/ He does my sisters hockey club do's and have also been to a 50th he djed at. He was cheap, abt 100 pound but not sure if that was a deal for the hockey club. He will play the sort of music you ask for so hockey club is cheesy music and chart and the 50th was 70s/80s music. Haven't seen him do any games.0
