Cccs dmp

Hi,

I have contacted CCCS regarding my debt situation, I filled in their online debt remedy and their response was that I should take on a CCCS DMP (Debt Management Plan), I have read through this plan and it seems like a solution to my current problems, but I do have some concerns.

I was wondering if anyone else has taken out a DMP with CCCS? I have a few questions for anyone who has done

1) Will I get hassled by creditors? (I’m a single lady who lives on my own – I really don’t want to be living in fear of a baliff turning up)
2) How badly will my credit rating be affected? Would there be no chance of me getting a mortgage in the future?
3) Do you think the DMP is a good idea or not?
4) How likely are creditors to accept the plan?
5) How likely is it that I will be taken to court?

All advice is very much appreciated (I have five creditors with a total debt of £16000)

Thanks
JP

  • Hi Just Peachy,
Im a newbie to, just officially started my DMP with CCCS and can honestly say its the best thing I have ever done. Yes I have received my fair share of calls from creditors but I answered all of them advised them that I was on a DMP and gave them my reference number and 90% of them stop calling. Its not that easy the first couple of months but this board has been a great help for ideas and what to expect.
I have to type and run Im afraid and Im sure there will be lots of more people to come along and give you there wisdom but I can clearly state 100% that you will not regret it.

    Hi JP

Loads of people on here use CCCS for their DMPs (I'm not one of them but 99% of people who do use them and post here seem really happy with them).

    1) For the first couple of months you will probably get creditors calling you/writing to you asking to increase your repayments. If a call just quote your CCCS number and hang up, if a letter just forward to CCCS. Baliffs won't turn up unless you get a CCJ and thats not particularly likely. A doorstop collector could turn up though in practice that rarely happens. A doorstop collector is not a baliff and has no powers, if they turn up and you tell them to leave then they must. If you are worried there is a letter you can send which revokes their right to visit you at home.
After a couple of months the creditors usually settle down with the DMP. Then you will probably just get occasional letter asking if your circumstances have changed.

    2) Pretty badly. You will almost certainly get defaults on your credit files and it will be affected for the duation of your DMP and potentially up to 6years after this. But entries only stay on your credit file for 6years and after this point, providing you maintain a good credit history after you have finished your DMP, then your credit report will be 'normal' and you should be as likely to get a mortgage as anyone else.

    3) Without seeing your financial info is difficult to advise but CCCS are one of the recommend advice centres on here. You could also post info on your income & expenditure using this form - http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html. Maybe we can advise whether you have any alternatives to a DMP. It may be we can suggest areas you can make savings, or places you could cut down that would mean you could manage without a DMP.

    4) Most creditors will accept a plan put in place by CCCS. CCCS are recognised by financial institutions as being 'fair' and most prefer you to use a free DMP organisation rather than one which charges you a fee.

5)Its possible a creditor could take you to court, but if you are paying what you can afford via your DMP, providing you file a defence (which people on here can advise you with) then often a judge would not order you to pay more that you currently do.
CCJs usually happen further down the line on a DMP. If you do get any court papers do not pass these on to CCCS, instead post here for advice. CCCS will not get involved in legal disputes, you are better to deal with these yourself.

Hope this helps and if you do post your statement of affairs using the link in 3 we may be able to offer specific advice for your situation.
