Hens in Fife

Try Scotads! Seriously, a guy I worked with had lots of hens and chickens and he got them from that paper - I have no idea how much they cost, can't imagine they cost maybe more than £10?
I would imagine that if you are a council tenant you have to get permission from the local authority to keep hens - you should probably give them a call in case any of your neighbours complaint.
You may have a local hen/chicken association in Fife - there's one up here near to me! Otherwise get a copy of a book by Francine something, sorry, I've been working all day and getting tired now, called Hens in your Garden (I think). Check out your local authority website - there is a society for anything, up here near me I have the local goatkeeping association!
Good luck, they lady down the road from me had lots of chickens and hens, we exchange the eggs for my veggies, the yolk will melt in your mouth!0 -
Do some good and get yourself some ex-battery hens!
Go visit the Battery Hen Welfare Trust website (bhwt.org.uk) :j0 -
Hi all, I bought 4 ex battery hens yesterday afternoon and by 11.30 today I had 3 eggs!!!! I am having a further 2 delivered tonight but am told that these are almost totally featherless. The couple that rehomes them are lovely people with huge hearts, Sarah and Chad. Their number is 07929936147 if you are looking to give some hens a chance of a rewarding life.........:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

my friend has rehomed battery hens and she advises me there are a number of chicken forums where you can find like minded chicken rehomers.
I would love to do this particularly as I love eggs however it says in my title deeds that I am not able to have poultry on my property...something to check out.0 -
I'm on the waiting list for the BHWT - in Scotland the co-ordinator is based in Callander.
The first thing I did was email the council (I think Environmental Health) and ask if there were any rules and regulations - OK as long as we don't have a cockerel.
I also asked my neighbours if they would have a problem (far from it - they've provided a wooden playhouse and mesh!) and checked the deeds of our house.
I've been in Pets at Home in Dundee today (East Kingsway) and they're now stocking a range of chicken keeping stuff, which could be very useful.0 -
I picked up a card beside a small Eglu display arrangement at Cairnie Fruit Farm nr Cupar.
Can't vouch for the total outcome - however their stuff looked fair and plausible.
It says 'All you need to get started';

Think that there's bye-laws against domestic fowls in Glasgow (North of the River at least!).0 -

Well just a short note to say i get my chickens tomorrow £15 each. I did'nt realise it would be so difficult to find them. I did look in Scotad but they were gone they were only £3 each. Tried to find ex battery hens with no joy it would appear that you have to register and wait. so tomorrow morning at 10am I will be the proud owner of 3 black rock organic hens. thanks to you all for your response.Waddle you do eh?0
