in Cutting tax
Hi,
Last tax year I had two employments. When I receieved my P60, it only showed the income and tax from the second employment. I gave the Tax Office a ring to query this, since I had handed in a P45 when I started the second job.
I was told I had been paying tax on a week-one, month-one basis. I suspect this was a mistake on the part of my old boss- I know that they're unusual, and I suspect that my incompetant old boss ticked the wrong box on the CD-Rom and then the website. Anyone got any idea hw this will have affected the tax I was paying? I got paid virtually the same amount each week, so it might have affected it too much?

Hi,
Last tax year I had two employments.
Do you mean one after the other or concurrently? When I receieved my P60, it only showed the income and tax from the second employment.
It would do. A P60 from an employer only shows the tax details for that employment.I was told I had been paying tax on a week-one, month-one basis. It may not have made much difference if you had no great break between the two employments and were earning over the Personal Allowance.
You need to add up the totals from your P45 and your P60 and see if you paid too much/ too little tax.
Post the figures if you are not sure.0 -
If you worked the entire year and had the same / very similar salary in both jobs then your tax deductions should be reasonably accurate, although I doubt they are spot on.
It would be very easy or you to check this yourself; add up the income from both jobs, deduct your personal allowance and then calculate your tax due by reference to the tax bands and rates for last year and compare to the tax you paid in the two jobs.0 -
Thanks, there was no break in employments and they were seperate, so I think it will all be correct, but I'll dig out the figures... I think it should all be fine, it was just the I thought that the fact it was week-1-month-1 might complicate matters0
