A couple of weeks back a gigantic oil tanker was out at sea here....I watched it for days.
Had an oil load that hadn't yet sold prior to sailing. Then it went after 7 days or do.
I have lived here 4 years and never seen them before.

Fascinating. If you look on Google maps you can see them all sitting there.

    It's true. Eg:

If you look off the coast of Singapore you can see the ships that are moving as you can see the wake wash(? not up on nautical terms) behind them. If you zoom in on the stationary ones they appear to have no containers on deck.

I wonder if this is just normal as presumably not every ship is used all the time or whether this is A Thing. After all, you could take a picture of any hypermarket car park and see hundreds or even thousands of cars just sitting there, not being driven or anything. Come to think of it you can see the same thing on Britain's motorways most rush hours.

    Interesting post though.

I don't dispute they can be seen on google maps, but in my experience google maps images are many years out of date. I can still see my old garage on google maps - and I took that down in 2001.

A number of oil tankers are being used for storage because the companies have bought at one price and sold at another e.g. the six month price is higher than the current price.
It is a no lose situation for the traders especially with the cheap tanker hire rates at present.

    Exactly.

There have always been a queue of ships anchored off Singapore awaiting to dock.

It is the worlds busiest port

I once worked on oil tankers and one of them was the biggest in the world when built...we used to spend weeks drifting around waiting for the oil prices to rise and then a mad dash to port...the load was often sold numerous times before it was offloaded.. 20 crew on a 350,000 ton tanker...never saw people after work..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
