Stick centrepiece

Hi everyone I have been thinking about my centrepieces again and want some opinions lol!!
I want to have something like this
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.melbourneflowerhouse.com/gp08/addpages/addpics/GP_08_15.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.melbourneflowerhouse.com/gp08/addpages/GP_08_15.html&usg=__bKhFGnTWFJLADjdLOGiM2HM--y4=&h=614&w=460&sz=131&hl=en&start=6&tbnid=8g3HofFqV_iSPM:&tbnh=136&tbnw=102&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dstick%2Bcenterpiece%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den
But not as tall. In the vase I want Oasis to sit the sticks in, covered by about 5 baubles and then I have these battery operated fairy lights which I want in the vase somewhere. I am going to use sticks from my willow tree and spraypaint them silver.
I'm rambling lol!!
So my question is how sturdy do you think the centrepiece will be? I am worried that it will be very easily knocked over. I did change my plans to a smaller vase just filled with baubles and lights but I don't think it will be dramatic enough! Does anyone have any ideas on how to weight it down or has anyone had this kind of thing and did they last all night?
Thanks, Tiger xxx

Hi Tiger,
Very fancy
I suppose if you weighted the bottom a bit you'd make it more stable but...
Well, my "but" is about how easy your guests will find it to chat to each other across the tables with a massively tall centrepiece? It might be worth thinking about your smaller version (which also sounds really nice - Christmas wedding I suppose?) to make it a bit more convivial for your guests.
Either way, it sounds like your centrepieces will be stunning.0 -
Why not use glass pebbles instead of oasis? They are usually BOGOF in Morrisons, and I am sure red ones would look fab!0

Hi Claire, that's a very good point, I hadn't thought about that!
Ooooh yes Morwenna I love the idea of red glass pebbles! hmmm decisions, decisions!

what about sand you can get lots in different colours that way it still looks nice but weighs it down and keeps the sticks in place0

what about a few pebbles from the beach :money: in the bottom of the vase? then cover them up with the baubles. you could always spray them silver too to make them match!
if you like the twigs but want something smaller, how about something like this? just something i had saved in my ideas file on my hard drive :rotfl: tell me we're all that geeky??! :rotfl:
i think it would look lovely with red glass pebbles and red roses/your baubles scattered over, perhaps on a mirror plate/tile?

Emlou that is gorgeous I love it!!! Exactly what I want!!! Hoorah, thankyou so much. I'm guessing if it is that size it won't fall over so easily! We don't live that close to a beach tbh, but I do have a lot of stones as borders in my garden so could nick some from there! Or I could go and see if morrisons have the red stones in and scrap the baubles altogether and just have the lights on the twigs. Ooooh loads of options now!! lol

Aww wow thanks Emlou! Just showed it to H2B and it's the first time he has got excited about something for the tables, so it's a winner all round, hoorah!!!
Think I am going to scrap the baubles in it and just use red glass beads! Think I might trail the lights over a couple of the twigs, hopefully it will work. I will post a pic when I have made them. will have a go with them tomorrow when dd is out! Having tall centrepieces stops you seeing the person opposite you when you're a guest and want to talk to everyone at your table.
It also gets in the way of pictures.
Just my tuppenceworth.
I'd like to see a centrepiece with something interesting in it - a wide vase with magic sand where there are kids at the table, or a conversation starter where there are only adults who might not know each other very well.
Pics of the family when they were young would go down well too - fun to spot what they look like now even if you don't know the other side's family well.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I love the idea of having photos of us when we were young, but don't think there will be any room left on the tables lol!! We are having table trivia, but I like the idea of the fortune tellers that you put your fingers in and count to open the bits with the numbers on! Think I might make the trivia myself, but not sure yet what kind of questions to put in?
