Apparently if you put one in each corner of a room it keeps the spiders away! I have heard people swear by this, but I don't really mind spiders so I havent tried it!
My BIL told me this, they have little dishes of them about the house, looks quite nice & autumal too!

  • Hello fellow OSer's

It's nearly that time of year again when conkers are about in their thousands. Every year I vow to find a use for them and every year I don't but this year I think I may have cracked it.
I know people have experimented with using them to make a washing liquid for their machines with varied results (bleaching effect on colors) in their machines, but has anyone tried hand washing with them? perhaps as a stain remover or a bleach? My main idea is that the conker liquid could be diluted according to the need.
Would this work do you think? It would save a packet on washing powders etc.

I think you'll have to track down Ray Mears of the Great Survival reputation and pick his brains. He seems to have brilliant ideas for just about everything in the natural world.

I am planning to use them this year for first time to discourage GIANT spiders from living in the house - I am told it works really well......tho that's not a terribly useful thing to do with them for most 'normal' non-arachnophobes.

  • Hi bramble...we have tons of conkers too:D..i personally gather them and put them in baskets with pine cones..also i have started to spray paint some gold and silver for christmas decorations...we have them all over the house in window sills coz apparently if you do that then spiders won't enter your house:eek:...old myth but i really can't stand spiders so i'll try anything..
    take care
