Think Im Going To Have To Postpone Day

My mum is no longer able to watch my 2yo daughter so she has 2 go in2 nursery for 2.5 days (her 3yo sister already goes) so my chilcare costs will now be £830 per month.

No way can I save as have mortgage etc, so my wedding which was booked for 5th June next year will be postponed til the Novemeber-gutted!

Do u think I will lose my £500 deposit for the venue even if I am still having it there just later on in the year?

Im gutted, but my mum is really unwell x

sorry to hear your mum is unwell.x

as long as its the same venue you should not lose deposit, a girl i worked with had to pospone for a whole year and they just moved the date. With the original wedding being during the wedding season then they should get the date filled no problems.

  • Oooh, is there no way you could make changes to your plans to save money and have it on the same day? I'm sure there could be and everybody here would help with ideas.

    You have a choice.

Either you tighten the belt on the wedding itself and keep the original date
    or
You keep the wedding you wanted but slightly later.

When something like this happens I always feel its better to look on it as a choice you are making, than something that is just happening to you. So maybe share with us some ways you can do the wedding cheaper, then make the decision, I promise it will make you feel more in control and better about the situation whichever decision you make, just from having made one.

I wouldn't have thought you would lose your deposit if your still planning on having your wedding at that venue. I hope you get it sorted out, it must be very stressful for you x

I'm sorry to hear you have to move your date, very disappointing.
We did as well and it sucks. However I have come to terms with it when I released how much I would have to change as well as how much stress it would alleviate.
  • Hi - poor you....just a thought though - are you getting the 3-4year funding for your elder daughter? Because that amount of money seems extremely high if your little one is only going 2.5 days a week...? It might be worth your while just finding out if you have any other childcare options....you could ring your local family information service http://www.childcarelink.gov.uk/ go to your local area and there should be a number....they are REALLY useful and may be able to help or suggest an alternative. You may have already done this but was just a thought! :A
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
  • Hi there, just another thought! Are you elligble for Child/working tax credit as they help to pay for childcare. Definitely worth a phonecall to them to see if you can get anything. Also you should get a free nursery place for your older child over the age of three, my DD is 2 but she will get this next year.

  • Hey there,
Sorry about your mum. The other posters are right about your childcare costs being high - definately look into seeing if you can get tax credit or pre-school vouchers!

If you do have to postpone I'm sure you'll be able to carry over your deposit. We had to postpone our wedding recently due to a fire at the reception venue. The whole thing was so stressful - trying to find alternate venue etc, but once we decided to postpone we both felt MUCH better.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do and hope your mum gets better soon xx

Also, can you buy child-care vouchers through your employer? That reduces the cost as you pay before you pay your tax, so you are saving a bit more money.

Agreed BUT make sure that you work out if you'd be better off with Tax credits OR vouchers because the vouchers affect how much tax you pay therefore affecting how much tax credits you'd get...the family info service i mentioned before would help you with this....also - someone else said that you would get FREE childcare when child is 3 years. Technically its only 15 hours per week free which equates to usually 5 half days per week...so you'd still be paying for 5 afternoons etc if you see what i mean....?

I still think you would be paying WAY over the odds with the amount you have mentioned and i think you need some proper specific advice for you family income so deffo check out that linky i gave before!! :j
