Will my debt become statute barred?

Hi guys
Just looking for some advice over a debt I have with Abbey which was sold to a debt collection agency. The default was placed on my credit file almost six years ago. I have two questions:
1) I have never acknowledged the debt or made a payment (believe it or not I was a victim of fraud and its a looong story) but the debt coll agency have contacted me regularly, does them contacting me mean it can never become statute barred?
2) If it will become statute barred eventually, is it 6 years from the default being place on my file or 6 years from when the acc defaulted?
Thanks so much in advance

1/ Acknowledgement must be made by the debtor, not the creditor or their agent. As long as you (or anyone else associated with the debt) have not acknowledged the debt in writing or made payment, the debt should become statute barred after 6 years. If there is a CCJ against the debt, then it won't and also if the debt was for a mortgage.
2/ It is nothing to do with the actual default on your file. It is from the last time you acknowledged the debt which would be the last payment made towards it, although some argue that it is from the first missed payment.
The date of default should also be the date on the default notice on your credit file though. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
