Hi, I am just after a little advice, usually post on the DFW board but thought this might be a bit more apt. Also I can pass on the details of the agency if anyone wants them
I am wondering whether to rejoin a babysitting agency I used to work for. I am a full time teacher but rubbish with money & want to pay off my cc's asap so I can start saving, I was debating whether to rejoin them a couple of weeks ago then forgot about it as started back at school and it's all been manic, yesterday however I received a text from the agency saying how busy they were & would I be interested in more jobs from them? The thing is I'm worried about how I declare it to the Tax people, how much will they take, etc. What will happen if/when they find out I used to do it on & off for about a year a couple of years ago- will I have to pay them anything for those jobs? (Some months I might work 4-5 jobs, other times it might be 6-8 weeks between jobs so it wasn't always regular). If so they would have to contact the agency for a list of my jobs as I don't have the details- & then would they want all the tax paid in one go?
Thanks for reading, any help gratefully received

As to how much you will be taxed depends on your other earnings. This web page will let you work it out after deducting your allowances.

With so many electronic databases it is now very easy for the tax authorities to keep track of people. If they want back payments they also add on interest.0 -
The tax office will follow the paper trail from the agency to you.0

Regardless whether I get in touch now to start babysitting again or only IF I get in touch and make them aware I used to babysit?

The agency are under a legal obligation to pass on details to the tax authorities. They aren't going to jeopardise their business by not doing so.
You can be certain the tax office already has the information.0 -
Did the agency you work for not tell you about tax before, I joined an agency and did a few jobs for them and they took tax out of my pay before I got paid. Did you get paid through the agency or directly from the parents?
Do you mind me asking which agency it was?Addicted to MSE, I can't resist a bargain0
