Stereo DAB Radio £34.49 @ Maplins

I've been looking for a feature rich reasonably prices DAB radio for the last month and nothing comes close to this.

Maplins are currently selling the DigiHome DRF100 DAB digital radio for only £34.49 on promotion. Got myself one yeaterday and the build quality and reception are excellent.

Features include:
8 preset stations for DAB and FM
Autotune on DAB
LCD display
Alarm clock and sleep timer
Stereo sound with headphone socket.
Mains/Battery operated.

I'm new to DAB but when you say 8 preset stations (Maplin website says 4 btw) does that mean you can only store 8 stations for quick access? Thats seems quite low?

Excellent timing. Been looking for a cheap portable DAB before the football starts.

Many thanks to welshbob for the tip.

I've not seen this particular radio but usually the scheme is that they have eight or so preset buttons, and also a shift button. You can store the eight stations but then press shift+button for another eight, or even shift-shift and so on.

I don't like the styling of that radio I must say, the 29.99 Alba from Sainsburys is a better bargain if and when they are running it.

There are 4 preset buttons but the "shift" functions allows you to store 2 stations for each preset button making 8 presets available in total.

8 seems like a reasonable number to me given the price of the unit. Once the inital autoscan of available stations is complete you can scroll through all receivable stations easily.

Are you sure about that? The website implies that there are 4 for DAB and 4 for FM. I guess as you've got one you know, but the description is not much good!

Also, is it actually stereo? Nowhere in the description says it is. You won't get much of a stereo image from such a box even if it has two speakers built in, but of course you'll get better results through headphones.

Man that styling sucks...it looks like someone has gone & slapped some electronics inside a cheap Ikea laminate drawer!

Buy it...so long as you want your family, friends neighbours & complete strangers to poke fun at you.

FWIW, I bought a Hitachi TRK-100 from Richer Sournds today, priced at £39.99 (but thanks to a stroke of luck, £29.99 for me!). Picture here:

It might be a better bet if you like the styling (I like it and it goes really well in my kitchen). It seems to be an excellent radio from first impressions - picked up loads of stations without even having to extend the aerial.

The Maplins one looks identical to one in Asda but that has a Durabrand logo instead. I think it is around the same price. The Asda one is described on the box as DAB and FM stereo.
