went bankrupt back in 2006 and was discharged in 2007
i applied for a bank account last month and was turned down by letter.
the letter said that if i can prove i was discharged then they would reconsider my account application.
How do i go about getting proof?
and will it cost me anything?
also would i need to clean up my credit file?
thanks in advance

I would advise cleaning up your credit files in any event.

I would either try the Co-op Cashminder or Barclays Cash Card Account. You have a better chance of getting an account at those two banks, than at Natwest when you are in that situation.0

i want a natwest account as its quicker to get my wages cashed into0

anyone know how i can get proof of discharge??0

You could write to your OR and see if he'll send you a letter or you could contact the court for a certificate of discharge - I think it costs £65.

I am a discharged bankrupt, the order was made in March this year and on the 11th September I had early discharge.
Today I went into Nat West as I heard that I could open a STEP account after discharge. They tell me I must be discharged for three years before I can open an account.
Halifax said not a problem but they want the original certificate with the seal but if this costs 65.00 they can forget it. All they have to do is go on the Insolvency Register for free and check me out. So whats that about? Back to square one!

Edit - never mind didn't realise you had a different issue.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Just to let you know. I made a complaint regarding Nat West telling me that I could not open an account (Step) for 3 years after bankruptcy and received a telephone call today to say that this is not correct (I know this!) and I just need to take an original copy of the Discharge and the usual ID.

Agreed most definatley NOT correct....I applied for a step account in branch everything processed and suprisingly they authorised a standard account instead...(been discharged nearly 3yrs though)
most banks suffer from almost non exsistant consistency! although if they'd taken me on board they'll take anyone!! :rotfl:We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0
