Venue for a two day wedding...

Evening all

Only just embarking upon wedding planning and am going in completely blind! Really want to hire a large house, in the countryside preferably, for my wedding, so we can celebrate for the whole weekend. Don't want a formal sit down meal, just somewhere we can relax and so everyone is together. Can anyone recommend a place or perhaps a website where i can look?

Thanks v much

it's about timing and price. (oh and place but i'm in scotland)
you haven't said how many, when, how much.

    i looked into the rent-a-hostel http://www.syha.org.uk/rentahostel/about_rentahostel.aspx
which is only good if you do it off-season (but late march might be ok)

i also looked into a countryside estate called kelburn castle that had camping on site for the guests but they had a fire just after i visited...

the national trust rent out their properties but the price may be prohibitive.

i'm sure others will come up with more upmarket solutions for you.
  • There are lots of places that will hire out the venue exclusively for you....though I'm not sure whether that will mean you having to have a meal/buffet provided by them. Price is obviously expensive using this method.

Another alternative may be renting a place for a short weekend break (which is obviously dependant on how many guests there are) if you only have a few guests and getting married at a registry office.

Do you have family/friends that is having to travel from further afield? I did and we basically rented out a whole local B&B (well 2 of them actually!) and hired the local bowling club for my party! (ok we weren't all together in one place but most stayed for more than one night and we all got together the night before and for breakfast!)

    hth as an option.

Beautiful place. Small (ish) but depending on how many you have you could fill the place which would make it "fully booked" :D

Try looking on here http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/ we've booked a couple of holidays through here. Just select where and how many beds etc and it brings up a list. Very helpful.

Felin Newydd House - nr Hay on Wye - https://www.countrypad.co.uk - if you have say 150 guests then it costs £7200 plus VAT for two days, less guests its cheaper. Only 18 people can stay and they will help find guest accommodation away from the House too.

  • Thank you sooo much for all the suggestions, really useful. I should have mentioned that I need somewhere that sleeps a minimum of 30 and preferably with hotels nearby for others. I reckon there will be a maximum of 50 to the whole thing. I live in East lancashire area but would be happy to travel up to 3 hours for the right place as I know its hard to find self catering places that big!
