Need help selling on ebay

Hi, my auntie gave me some professional eyelash extensions (can only be purchased by professionals holding a training card) that are worth £25 per pot directly from the retailer to sell on ebay (she spent £60 per pot and at least wanted some return otherwise it is wasted money). Thinking it would sell better if i put the sale up as a full beauty set i added a lot of other items into the listing too in order to make item more bulked out , i set the reserve price at £125 and it didnt sell, the highest bid was £5.50 or along those lines. There were 5 pots of these eyelashes in there so it was a deal worth taking. Im not sure why it didnt sell, but i cant afford to relist the item since the sellers fees were bulked up by the reserve price. I was wondering if people can give me some hints and tips or at least let me know whether i should get rid of the other products, split the eyelashes up and sell them per pot, or sell them as a set (all 5 pots). Also suggestions on what is a reasonable price to ask per pot/for the set.

Thanks

People on ebay will want a "bargain" and unfortunately £125 isnt a bargain these days. Theyd maybe sell better aimed at a more specialised market i.e the beauty trade. But the im a beauty student and can buy "trade" with my student ID.

Could be one of those things that wont make as much as you hope, or maybe youll get lucky.
  • It's free listing day tomorrow (Sun 12th) So relist then. Instead of having a reserve price start the listing at £125. This means, if they still don't sell, at least you won't have had to pay anything. Bear in mind you will have 10% ebay FVF to pay and also the paypal fee which is 3.4% + 20p.

Make sure you have plenty of clear, detailed photos and describe everything well. Instead of paying ebay for the extra photos, use an external photo hosting site such as Photobucket.

Finally, check out the ebay board for more hints and tips of what to do and what not to do.

  • Use cheaper items to bulk up the price is defeating the object, higher listing fees, Extra postage charges.

Everyone wants things for nothing, So they are not going to waste money on items they do not want, especially when they have to pay extra for postage.

Did the item get many visitors? Or get asked questions?

What about completed listings, anyone sold anything like this before?

  • I had one question asked - what is your reserve price so i can put a reasonable bid in. However i didnt reply to the message until much later that night as i was out and the item ended about 10 hrs or so after i sent the reply. I now have 8 pots of the eyelashes so i might try and list them as a set (no extras) today. I have a photobucket account so thats perfect.
Wouldnt i still have to pay fees for having the item start at a higher price?

Normally you would, yes, but today is it is free to list, so no listing fees.

    It's only a game

  • I think you should split up your eye lashes pots into individual ones and then sell. Do not sell them now in wholesale, since the rates you get will be too low. Instead if you sell individually then you can expect higher rates when you sell them,..

You're not wrong there, I used to start everything at 99p and it usually went up to a lot more but recemtly I started a brand new riding jacket at 99p and thats what it went for. So now I've learnt my lesson and put an alton towers family ticket up (worth over £80 if bought in advance from thier website or over £100 on the day) I started it at £29.99 and I only had some cheeky person ask me if I would accept £20 for it!
