Capital One - interesting phone call

Hi

I had a phone call from Capital One this morning. I've written to them and explained my situtation and made my payment (token) for this month.

The wee woman on the phone she said her name was Anna but it was definitely a call centre overseas, asked me to pay £450 now if I had my debit card on me. Told her no, they had my letter and had received my payment, there was as bit of a pause then she said 'Oh, we haven't been passed the letter yet' so I told her the letter had been signed for on 28 August. She asked me why I could not make the full payment so I told her I've got no money. She asked me to make the payment by 20th September which I told her I couldn't do, they have my letter.

Then she said I should phone and make a claim on my payment protection insurance and they would take over the payments. I must admit I was a bit puzzled by that. Told her that the payment protection insurance was only for sickness and redundancy not for being stupid (in my case). The answer to that was nonsense that's what you are paying the insurance for, and insisted in giving me the number and told me to repeat it back to her so that I had taken down the number correctly.

This is definitely a new twist from Capital One or have you heard about this before.

  • I had a few phone calls like this before they finally admitted that they had my letter & accepted my terms.I don't know if it was a language barrier or the call centre staff are just told to carry on putting pressure on us.

  • Hi

Must admit when I said I had no money the wee woman said that was ok and not to worry, she would put a hold on any phone calls until 20th September (just time for me to send off the 'don't phone me' letter).

It was the payment protection insurance theory that got me.

  • They asked me that too,but I told them I hadn't been unemployed or sick so it didn't apply. She did put pressure on me to pay something, even £5 but I told her I couldn't & wouldn't discuss it further till they replied to my DMP letter.

Well I had a similar call from NR (England), so not a foreign call centre, who told me to claim back my PPI, and this would reduce my loan debt by a massive amount (almost £12,000, if the bas%%%%ds pay it back) which I've been trying to do with my loan, but NR are stalling, this has been going on since early February. I sure those at the top are not aware their call centre representative are telling people to claim back their PPI.

    Good luck,

  • If I'd thought of it at the time, I would have asked the wee woman if she was actually asking me to commit fraud. The Payment Protection afterall is only for illness or redundancy and not stupidity (in my case).

Still waiting to hear if they will accept my really reduced payments. Shouldn't think they will but as I ain't got any more they can't get it.

You may have a claim on the PPI.
