Really need help ;(

Hi all, first time poster. My Partner and I are in financial mess. To cut a long story short we bought a house in 2007 spent thousands doing it up and then had to leave as i fell pregnant and we were threatened by the neighbours. We made a huge loss but the heartache and arguements we had were far worse. I had my son 8 months ago & my maternity pay has just finished going back to work doesnt make me much better off as Childcare is so expensive. I have been thinking of an iva or debt management programme but could do with some advice

we are in £27 000 debt ( i know) and when we have paid minimum payments and everything has gone out we have £90 left this doesnt cover food shopping. :( I just dont know what to do, im trying to find a part time job but its not a quick process. What is the best option for me? Are debt programms any good?

  • Right in order for us to advise you need to post a SoA, you wouldneed to prepare one for a DMP anyway so get a head start by doing it now.

Start a spending diary too to keep track of where your money really goes, often there are leaks you weren't aware of that can be plugged easily with a spending diary.

When you post your SoA we will be able to advise whether there are savings to be made, or better ways to do things and whether a DMP would be a possibility.

You have come to the right place, there is loads of support here.
  • Hi there sorry whats a SoA? x

  • It's basically a wart n' all look at your finances. There one here which handily will do some of the sums for you (and us) and ensure you don't end up missing something vital off.

I think the worst bit is probably getting it all down in black and white and then you can begin a plan of attack.

Please please only seek advice from CCCS or your local CAB or National Debtline or one of the other places Martin recommends - DO NOT use a company that will charge a feee - at best you will paying for advice which you can get for free and at worse they can rip you off and take your hard earned money and leave you in a worse mess than before - if a DMP is suitable it will be recommended by one of the debt charities.
ANyway hopefully you can fill in the SOA calculator and then we can give you suggestions on what the best thing in your situation might be.
    All the best

Do check what you can get in the way of WTC, CTC or child care support
