First time buyer help needed please

Hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum so be gentle! I am looking to get my first mortgage in the next 4-5 months. I like to prepare wll in advance so am doing lots of research to keep me informed so no one can pull the wool over my eyes.

I m looking to find a reliable solicitor and broker in the West Drayton area (UB7 postcode) and was wondering if there were any recommendations on here.

I have currently had dealings with Chase De Vere and Mortgage Force but these have been randomnly picked and I don't really know them or whether to use them.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

HomerJ.

    Hi Homerj & welcome,
Not really the done thing to make specific recommendations on these threads apart from anything you don't know who is doing the rec'ing and whether they have some vested interest. The watchwords are "whole of market" and "fees free" [they get a commission off the lender]and the best way to find one is recommendation from family, friends, work colleagues.
Preparing and researching in advance is a really sensible way to approach. Have a good trawl around the mortgage section of the site as martin has done some really good articles and a lot of the mystique around mortgages is to do with the terminology, once you've cracked that they're fairly easy to understand. From there you can link to some comparison sites and put your figures through and get ideas of what your costs are likely to be.

  • Thanks for the info. Good advice and I have already done some of the things you have mentioned (reading Martin's Guide for example).

The main reason I posted was I have asked friends, colleagues etc and am just asking for another viewpoint. No-one I have spoke to seems to be able to say to me that "My broker was excellent etc". Most of the people I have spoken to have just said, "Well, they were ok really".

Like you mentioned in your post I want to be fully prepared and I certainly won't take anyone up on the offer of mortgage advice without lots of research into their background.

Hopefully, this explains myself a little more so everyone knows where I am coming from. Once again, thanks for the info though and I will do some more trawling in the mean time!
