As a sufferer who does work i manage by wearing pads, not eating much and pain killers.
I used to work full-time as a busy corporate solicitor. When I was in court (and therefore not able to go to the loo at a moment's notice) I lived on black coffee and didn't eat at all on those days until I got home. Sometimes on a long hearing I didn't eat for two or three days, apart from a bit of soup or natural yogurt that I knew wouldn't upset my system. I don't think it did my health any good and probably added to my problems in later years, but that was how I coped.
That, and the fact that I was blessed with a very good employer who valued my contribution and was happy for me to work from home on bad days, and colleagues who covered during my hospital stays, without complaints. I know how very lucky I was to work in such a supportive environment.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
The op asked for benifits advice and i hope she received some.
When she learns to manage the condition in her own way (as everyone is different) she should be able to return to work in the future.
Im not saying this will be easy.0 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I'm sorry I didn't read the original posting. My son was diagnosed with Crohn's at 18. It's a huge challenge for a young person to come to terms with. If the OP wants to PM me I'll give any advice I can.0

The original posting was about benefits being insufficient to pay towards compulsory elements of housing costs/council tax to a point she wasn't even buying her needed medication. She did quit the smoking, but refused to accept the expensive car was a luxury she couldn't afford.

There are some very judgemental and uncompassionate comments on that thread. No wonder the poor OP stopped posting.0
