Hello
My husband put down a large deposit on a racing cycle around £1200. He's got a receipt for the money paid. He paid this a few months back and the shop is holding the bike until he can pay the balance off. Unfortunately due to personal circumstances now those money are needed for a serious issue. I am considering advicing my husband to ask for the money back from the shop.
I understand that we may loose something but 'legally' i dont know where we stand. We didnt sign any 'contract' that states how much we loose if we change our mind but we dont know how to address it with the shop.
Any help would be highly apprecciated
Regards BB

It's a complex area of consumer law (well, to my mind anyway - I don't normally deal with consumer issues). I started to have a look at the CAB info and got a bit confused by it.
I think the way forward is to work out if you are really going to request the return of the deposit. If so, then make the request and see what the response is. It would be useful to do this in writing so there is no dispute about the exact request and response. If it is along the lines of 'that was a non-refundable deposit' then take the issue to the guys at Consumer Direct
You may want to discuss the case beforehand with them. Hope it works out....0
