New job P45

Hope somebody can help.
I received about four weeks of job seekers allowance at the beginning of the tax year but I stopped claiming as I was not looking for work for personal reasons. This is my only income so far this year and totalled just under £300.
I am going back to a new job next week and realise that I do not have a P45 with respect to the JSA, I have called them and they say they have sent it, so I presume it is lost.
I know that I therefore need to do the P46 and will tick box B, thus I will end up being taxed on a week 1 basis. Does anybody know how I will ultimately get onto a cumulative tax code and how long this will take?
I am absolutely sure the P45 was never received but as they think they have sent it I can't get a duplicate.

As soon as you start your new job, ask them for the name of the tax office which deals with them. Contact the tax office and explain yur problem - ask them to issue a new code to your employer asap. They may want you to confirm in writing that you were not working or claiming during the gap period.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
