Dublin day trip from North - parking etc??

Heading to Dublin for a day trip this coming weekend, not sure of parking etc. I googled a little and found some crazy rates. Is there any benefit to parking say at the Airport and getting a bus into city centre??

Is a bus to city centre expensive? Tolls to Dublin...

Tips/advice appreciated otherwise, any meal deals on website applicible in the Republic...

I'm taking a visitor on a 'sightseeing trip' any recommendations - just do the tour bus? My friend is very keen to visit Claridges - apparently Bono lives on the top floor??!! Lol.

Thanks in advance.

:j:rolleyes:;):D:cool::o:A:confused::money::mad:

I wouldn't drive to Dublin. Get the Enterprise. They have an offer for a day return from £15. You can get the Enterprise from Belfast Central, Portadown and Newry Stations.

Just checked and the £15 offer needs to be booked a few days in advance, so wouldn't work for this weekend. Standard Prices are below:

    From Belfast
    TO DUBLIN DAY RETURN (Mon-Sat)£30.00

    From Portadown

    TO DUBLIN DAY RETURN (Mon-Sat)£25.00

    From Newry
TO DUBLIN DAY RETURN (Mon-Sat) £20.00

Ulsterbus is your man here ;)

Direct bus from the Europa bus centre to Dublin Bus station, shop and sightsee till you drop and bus back home, no parking charges, no petrol costs, no toll roads, bus leaves Belfast every hour from 7am and takes 2 hours 40 minutes;)

Not sure of cost, but wouldn't be much more than petrol, toll, parking and hassle cost of taking your own car:D check the translink website or give them a ring for cost.
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Thanks for that. Sadly I know the train is out of action for most of the way, I would normally go via train for 'free' using clubcard tokens, however...... need to take car this time! Help! :-)

Drive to Malahide, park free in the Castle car park just before the train bridge or for €2 for 3 hours in the train station then get the DART in to Connolly etc - you can get an all day hopper ticket for the DART if you fancy heading out to Bray etc

  • Twinkle162 - parking in Dublin can be really expensive but is still cheaper than paying for two train fares (when it actually makes it to Dublin). Jervis St (shopping centre) car park is around 15 euro for the whole day

Also, I think the hotel you are looking for is The Clarence (on Dublin quays), which is owned by U2 members. I dont think Bono actually lives there but look out for The Edge when walking around the city!

  • If you are driving to Dublin you will need to pay a toll of 1.95 euro. Correct change is easier but they do have casheirs as well. This will also apply coming back.

    Have a good time.
  • Marcowil is correct, it is the Clarence Hotel you are looking for and is owned by Bono and the Edge. I don't believe they live there but have been known to stay in the penthouse. The hotel is lovely and has a great bar and restaurant if you do visit.
  • nothing to do with the OP's question but i remember staying in what is now "The Clarence" before U2 bought it - for only £15 a night! I bet it was a somewhat different hotel back then

He owns a house on Vico Road in Killiney. It's not uncommon in the summer to see large groups of teenagers just sitting on the side of the road hoping for a glimpse of him as he goes in or out. Apparently they write fan messages on the walls as well.
