Just got our mail. There was a letter to our address but with no name on it. Inside was a card from "Roxburghe" saying they had important documents for us. Alarm bells rang. I knew I had read on here about debt collectors doing this to make you ring them. I looked them up on this site and yep-sure enough they`re debt collectors.
I emailed my husband to ask him if he would phone them from work (untraceable) and ask what it was all about. I gave him the tips I had read on here about no information to be given-no name/address/date of birth etc.
Why wouldn`t I do this? Cos I`m a wimp and my hands were shakin too much and I felt sick. I was sure we had no arrears or late payments or parking tickets.
He has just phoned me. The card was for the previous tenants of our house. We`ve been here 4 years and get letters for them monthly. I used to send them on to their new address. Then it got annoying so I sent the letters back with `not at this address` on them. The person my husband spoke to was also very cagey-as was my husband lol. He (Roxburghe) at first refused to give the name of the person he wanted and asked my husband for his. My husband said no, I`ve told you the reference number so tell me who it`s for. Finally Roxburghe said it was a lady`s name. And he eventually told my husband who it was for. The new address was given and Roxburghe said they will ensure no other mail from them comes here.
So I`d just like to say a HUGE thankyou to you all with your excellent tips and knowledge. My hands have finally stopped shaking.
