A bad time to change bank accounts?

Not sure if this is better here or on the bank account thread? Happy to move it if it's better there.

I've just ended a two year fix (6.04%) with Abbey and reverted to their SVR. For now I'm happy to leave it like that and use the difference in payments to pay against other outstanding debt (credit card)

However at some point, fairly soon, I'd be looking to take out another fixed rate mortgage. I've no idea what a realstic valuation of my house is at present, but based on the last valuation I'm about 85% LTV. I know prices will have fallen in the last two years but I'm hoping the new boiler and double glazing will just about cancel that out.

Completely unconnected to this, I thought, I'm looking to transfer my current account from HSBC to Co-op. However I'm now wondering if this is a wise move. I get the impression from posts on here that banks are offering rates to current account holders that aren't available to everyone else. I also have a notion that being with a bank a long time is seen as a good sign in credit terms, so I'm more likely to get a favourable mortgage deal.

Any experience or advice would be appreciated.

Cheers
