The letter he received just said he could take a union rep or other colleague with him, that is all the info. he has had. He has not been given a copy of their disciplinary procedure so he does not know what to expect.

From talking to my OH it is obvious that his boss suffers from Captain Mainwaring syndrome, a small man in a small job who thinks he is really important. He has been at the firm for about 30 years and he is manager of this little dept., about 2 steps up from a shelf- stacker, but he thinks he is really important and likes to throw his weight around.

What he is doing now is a master class in how not to manage. My OH is doing a really boring job with almost nothing to do and there is now no-one doing his previous job, so the work is building up and people are starting to complain. Ha Ha Ha.

We would both like him to be able to tell them to shove their job, but unfortunately we need the money - SIGH!

Your OH doesn't seem to like his boss does he? He must be careful not to let his personal opinion influence his behaviour.

You've already said that he's stubborn and also that he refuses to give medical details - he needs to be careful that he doesn't seem to have an "attitude" as this could also be seen as indiscipline and add to the problem.

Ok - he needs to get hold of a copy ASAP. But he also needs to note that he was not given a copy, and has had to ask for it - in writing, sent by special delivery (if you are anywhere near any Royal Mail strike areas, this is probably the only way to ensure mail will get delivered) so you have a signature to prove receipt.

And can I suggest that you are careful what you write - you may think you cannot be identified, but you never know who else reads the site and some of your comments could be construed as inflammatory to your OH's situation.
