Was very shocked to receive the email this morning announcing that the group (over 17000 members ) was no more. I belong(ed) to it as well as the Hove Freecycle group as I actually live on the Brighton/Hove border Am sorry to see the group disappear - and wonder what's in store for the future of the Hove group.0

That's a shame. I Know Freecycle is getting some bad press but I think it is such a useful idea. I'm sitting here waiting for someone to contact me now about collecting a massive load of bound magazines. Without Freecycle I would not have had a clue what to do with them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'm not sure what 'the Brighton Group has just died' actually means.
I assume what it means is that the Moderators have quit and nobody else can be bothered; though with 17,000 members it's a bit surprising that no-one's stepped into the breach yet. I'm sure someone will.0 -
Actually the moderators have quit, started a new group (Greencycle Sussex) and are presently moving all the members who are willing, to the new group. I understand there are lots of internal politics issues going on behind the scenes, and that is also why several UK Freecycle groups are presently changing their names.
There is a thread that explains everything in the Ethical & Green Moneysaving sub-forum >>here<<0 -
from what i got it seems the main freecycle peeps in USA were not letting UK groups run in a way that suits this country.. trying to find out more..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

the freecycle 'owners' in USA, afaik, have been twisting arms of UK group moderators.. also getting them removed from yahoo moderator groups too.Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

If the Brighton group is anything at all like my local Freecycle (North Norfolk) then it's not surprising that it has dissolved. Although I am a heavy FC user I find it is extremely 'anally' run with a lot of nonsensical rules, censorship and with mods 'cherry picking'.
Nice idea, shame about how it turned out.0 -
It hasn't disappeared at all. It has a new logo is all!0

Our local group, the ads are mostly, wanted, wanted, wanted, Plus often specify good working order, size required etc, Not surprisingly many members have lost interest. Last time I offered something it was obviously someone who needed stock for ebay that replied. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0
