Mortgage advice please!

Hubby and I will be looking to buy a house in the next couple of years. We currently rent.
I have had terrible credit problems which are unresolved so I won't go on the mortgage and hubby and I keep our finances very seperate. We don't have a joint account and pay for different things.
We do, however, have a mortgage free 200 year old farm house in Corfu. My parents-in-law currently live in it.
Whilst I am not wondering if we could secure a house against that, in part (more than our life is worth), would that go in hubby's favour when we apply.

As long as you are not bankrupt you can get a mortgage. The type of mortgage and competitiveness depends on the severity of your credit problems. I doubt a lender would accept an asset overseas as collateral, but I could look into it for you. If you have parents of your own who are mortgage free (or nearly) then they may be able to assist you by securing your mortgage against their home for the first few years.I am a Mortgage Adviser
