Click on the first link in the first post & scroll down, the lady details what she did. The second link tells a little bit but mostly in the first.
Basically she did the cake (I am using chocolate fingers around the outside to then load the sweets into). The she got a metal bowl, put it in the freezer for an hour, melted her chocolate, took the bowl out & used some oil on it to stop it sticking, swooshed the chocolate around & froze for an hour. She said when she took it out & turned it over the cake it came out easily but if it does not use warm tea towels to help it out.

I went to a local shop today to get some red colouring (seen some on e-bay) to go in the chocolate (gonna make a ladybird). They did not have any & they totally poo-pooed the idea....said you will need a proper chocolate mould etc. So I have some ordinary red food colouring (will just use a little) & fingers crossed it will come out well on Friday when I make it as a joint cake for DD & her grandad. It was my Dads birthday on the 12th & DD's on the 24th.
Keep everything crossed for me please - & I will let you know if it works.
Thanks again Sethsgran for the post.
Hi Jackomdj,
I don't want to burst your bubble but just wanted to warn you that I tried adding food colouring to white chocolate to make a tractor cake for my little boy's birthday, and like the lady who made this pinata cake says in her instructions, it just went all gloopy and mine wouldn't set at all. I think maybe it's to do with the water content of the food colouring?
I hope I'm wrong and maybe I was just doing something wrong, but I just wanted to give you a heads up to have a back-up plan just in case!
Let us know how you get on!

A bit late for me (as I need it for the weekend & we have postal strikes ) but "pme edible lustre spray" is like an edible spray paint you can use on chocolate. Been searching for someone local that sells it but could not find anyone

Hi ladies,
The 'normal' food colouring won't work to colour chocolate, the water content will make the chocolate seize and clump. (same as if you let water get into it while your melting it).
A company called squires kitchen do a product called 'Cocol' http://www.squires-shop.com/ibf/index.php?p=catalog&parent=72&pg=1 It's a colouring designed for use with chocolate. I've used Squires many a time in the past for sugarcraft supplies, very reliable
Hope that helps x (and I'd love to see them when they're done please

Hi I am so glad someone has bumped up this thread. I tried to find it last week cos I was making one!
Anyway I made 2 for the two parties we had for my sons 2nd birthday. He had some friends at his party that are allergic to ingredients in cake so i filled the centre of the cake with wrapped sweets, fruit bars etc they could eat.
The kids loved it and so did the adults at his family party!
The only thing I would say is we couldn't get it to break with a toy hammer I think you need a toffee hammer or something. I did a thinner one but I couldn't get that out of the bowl. It takes some practice but a good result in the end!!
