What's the cheapest way to add a second name to a mortgage?

I will be adding a second name to a mortgage next month, so I would like to get it on as cheap as I can. Has anyone got any info on how to get around the heafty chargers they want, the last I heard it was about £300:eek: .

you will need a solicitor who will do the transfer of deeds ect - obviously they will charge
the mortgage lender will charge a fee also - for example £160 to lender0
