Old box of Rose wine?

I have a box of Rose wine that was given to me ages ago. We won't drink it and I don't want to waste it. Would it be okay to put in a stew/casserole and what type of meat would it taste best with? TIA:D

It would taste best with the type of meat I'm having for tea tonight!!
What a shame you won't drink it - it will, of course, go fine in a stew or casserole; any of the usual suspects - beef, pork or chicken. As it's in a box, it'll keep for ages, so you don't need to slosh loads of it in, as too much wine can overpower, just enough to add flavour and tenderise a bit, if you absolutely insist on cooking with it!Reason for edit? I think I've had it over a year and it has been opened before it was given to me. It's been living on top of the fridge freezer and not refrigerated so think it might be a bit minging to drink
. I don't mind a drink but much prefer a lovely tasty stew!!!

Try it - as the air can't get at it because the bag inside will be sealed it should still be fine! (Think about vintage wines - they're kept for aaaaages - alcohol is a preservative, well that's the theory I'm working on for my old age, at least!!) Decant a half a bottle, put it in the fridge to chill, and treat yourself to a glassful. If you want to be ultra cautious, you could do what the survival experts do, and rub a little bit on your inner lip first; if no negative reaction within 24 hours, assume safe to consume!Reason for edit? very easy way to see if it's ok, pour a bit give it a snff and if that's ok taste it, if it's just a bit vinegary it'll be fine to cook with, if its fusty I'd stick it on the compost.0

Not all rose wine are dry. Taste it to see if it is sweet. I would not put it in a stew if sweet. You could make dessert jellys with it.0

If it is on the sweet side it would be fine with anything with tomato and basil as a bit of sweetness seems to bring out the flavour.:D0

I have half a bottle of Rose wine in the fridge leftover fom a BBQ we had. I don't drink wine so was wondering if there were any recipes I could use it in?0

hmmm I believe that most recipes can benefit from a good glug of wine!
After sauteing meat for a casserole you can add a glass of wine to the pan to deglaze it - that utilises every bit of the lovely taste left behind in the pan - you then add the wine to the recipe. (side benefit is that the pan is sooooooooo much easier to wash up!)
rose wine is lovely when added to a trifle (the sponge layer part), if you replace some of the water recommended for the jelly with wine! specially with the red fruits.
even for gravy - add the wine to the bits left in the roasting tin and reduce down til theres hardly anything there - if you thicken with flour you can then add it and make the gravy as usual - but the wine adds a depth to the flavour!
and lastly use the wine instead of (or with) water to make sugar syrup for sorbet - to make a grown up version. again, with red fruits its gorgeous! try watermelon sorbet and substitute a little red or rose wine in the sugar syrup. its out of this world!0 -
never suffered from left over rose wine myself.... maybe you could use it in a boozy jelly? it's very nice mixed with lemonade for a light summery drink. I guess you could freeze in ice cube trays until you think of something?
