DRO in place and wanting to study at Uni help
I got myself into major trouble financially and I have ended up having to obtain a Debt Relief Order. It was approved at the beginning of June this year.
I have been on incapacity benefits for a number of years due to black outs but they do seem to have stopped being as frequent as they used to be so I tried to go back to work. Unfortunately it seems that I am virtually unemployable (due to lack of qualifications and the black outs causing numerous health and safety issues) so I would like to study for some qualifications to see if this would help me come off benefits and get a job.
I have been accepted full time by the University as a mature student and think this could be the making of me.
However, I have been told that I will no longer be able to claim benefits as a full time student and would be expected to live off grants and loans. As I have a debt relief order I believe I am not allowed to take out a loan for more than £500. I live on my own and have rent and bills to pay like everyone else does. I cant sublet as this would not be agreeable with my landlord.
Does anyone know a way around my problem and is the information Ive been given correct?
Thanks

Student Loans are exempt from the bankruptcy rules and aren't affected by a poor credit rating. Many people go back into education after bankruptcy.
Full details of student finance, grants loans and bursaries, can be found on https://www.direct.gov.uk There is extra help for students with a disability and some are able to carry on getting IB.
There are several threads relevant to you on the Student Board so I'd have a search for them.0 -
Thanks for taking the time to write back with the good news, much appreciated.
I will also have a look on the Student Board.0
